    Hi,

I'm thinking of taking up Taekwon-Do but I'm just trying to find out if anyone here has been to clubs and knows what they are like?

The closest to me is the one in Cabra i think. ITF Taekwon-Do Dublin.

Has anyone been here and know what its like, both training hall and people?
I'm 25. Are there others there my age starting out or is there an age limit?
Also if i went along to the hall at one of their training times, would i be able to look in on a session as im thinking this might be best.
Also wondering about sparring / competitions. Are you forced into doing them or can you decide to join when you feel ready?

Also looking for the price if anyone knows.

    Thanks for any replies :)

Sure pop along and see if you like it. I don't think you'd be forced into competitions in TKD, you might have to do a little bit of light sparring at some point but if you were uncomfortable with it, I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem.

    Hey mate,

I'd HIGHLY recommend Jon Mackey when it comes to TKD (or self-protection). I've trained with him on numerous occasions, he's an excellent instructor.

    Here's his website.

25 is not too old to start! We have students in our TKD dojang that ranged from 4 to almost 60 years old when they started. MA is for sport, SD, health (and for life!).

    25 years young!:D

While I no longer practice American Kenpo. I knew a guy at the club who started in his mid forties, and received his Black Belt at the age of 51. You can start anytime...

I was in my 30's when I started Judo.

Although I came from a kickboxing background, but no. 25 is not old at all.

Like the lads said, Jon Mackey is in Cabra. I'm not 100% if he's still in the GAA club there or if he's back in the primary school, but he's the man to go to.

As regards competitions. I wouldn't speak for Jon but I think they way he has it is if you want to compete, it's there for you, if you don't want to, you don't have to.

And 25? Too old? Get out of it!

Sweet, cheers lads. I'll drop down and take a look at it hopefully one of the days next week.

Howdy, thanks lads for the recommendations!

At the minute we are in St Finbar's GAA club. Give me a ring Noxin @ 085 7309740 and I'll answer any queries you have, we do plenty of comps but you only enter if you feel ready, you won't be landed into anything out of your depth.
There's plenty of beginners your age also, pop along or give me a buzz.

    Take care
