    Hey chaps,

Just wondering how someone becomes an amateur boxing coach? (Don't worry, I'm not trying to become one - just a bit curious is all).

Is is based on the number of ring fights you've had? Or the years of training etc.

    Thanks,

    B.

    Hi, long time no talk,
To become a iaba boxing coach you have to do 2 day course, you need to be affiliated to an aiba boxing club and on the day show some techniques etc.. and do a written test-most will already be coaching years anyway but dont have the cert!! The cert does not mean your a better coach than other experienced boxers but allows you to be insured, there is different levels of coach and they each take a weekend to complete-hope this helps

    Hey Paul,

Hope things are going well for you? How's Glenn getting on btw?

Thanks for the answer. So it's a 2 day course, but as you said the guys would have been training for years anyway - more of a formality to get insurance.

I guess it's the same for someone who want to tech self-protection. You'd have to have a black belt in order to get insurance.

    Cheers,

    Rob.

Self defense is a broad term and anyone with any qualification and insurance can do it-Boxing coaches can teach self defense just like kenpo black belts can! Because there is no belt system coaches need to do the courses to be officially qualified-P.s Glenn's good and still helping me out with training etc..

Hi Ritchie, you have to do it through your boxing club. You have to actively coaching in the club to be put forward for it or know someone in the club that can do the same.

For any moreinfo on it email the secretary of the IABA - www.iaba.ie
