Always awake laptop?

I have a password on my Macbook and I have toy type it in everytime I wake the computer up or start it up. (This is what I want) OK, so I want to leave my laptop open and awake overnight but I can't seem to do so. I've downloaded InsomniaX and I run it and then in the menu I chose "Enable Insomnia" now, if I leave my laptop on for about 3 or 4 minutes it tries to quit all applications and then log itself out.

So what do I do? Do I have to disable the password and stuff so that it doesn't try to log itself out anymore or am I missing something else in relation to InsomniaX.

    Thanks.

Are you just trying to prevent your MacBook going to sleep? If so, click on the power indicator in the menu and click 'Open Energy Saver.' Select the sleep tab and slide the 'Put the computer to sleep' scroller over to 'Never.' Now just select 'Custom' from the power indicator menu whenever you want to prevent the laptop sleeping.

It is but it tries to log out and when it's logged out for a few minutes the laptop goes to sleep. (Maybe I should have said that in the first place) I think I'll have to just turn off the security settings or something.....

go to system prefs > security.

there is a box there saying "Require password to wake this computer..."

    obviously make sure thats unticked.

then go into energy saver, and put hard drives to sleep "Never" and put display to sleep "1 minute"

this is what i have for when im downloading etc overnight. so the hard drive is always on and the display goes straight off after a minute.

insomniaX is only if you want to close the lid and have it still working underneath.

    Thanks.

I disabled the security. Hopefully it should work now. I thought that InsomiaX would work with it open aswell but it doesn't matter anyway...

    Thanks again.

Requiring a password to wake from sleep should have no effect on whether the computer actually goes to sleep, I have mine set to require a password but with the settings I have outlined above it stays awake. I don't know why yours would be logging out, leave it with me (or maybe someone will answer in the meantime :D)

EDIT: I think I have it. Go into your system preferences and then into Security. Is the 'Log out after X minutes of inactivity' box checked? If so, uncheck it, set energy saver as above and you should be good to go :D
