I've got an old German army truck looking for a new home. 1964 4x4 2.8 supercharged diesel Hanomag fitted with dopside body. Low mileage. Taxed. Pmo but needs cab restoration- floor mainly. Panhard PL?

The gentleman above is flogging one of these, I believe, a Hanomag AL-28A built between 1963 and 1968.

and believes that the Boardsie named Pahnard PL, a collector of military vehicles, may be interested in relieving him of it.

Are sure it's ex German army?
    Like really, army?

Because if that's the case it would be extremely rare.

The German army tested some of these vehicles, but never put them into service.

Instead they found their use in (non army related/controlled) civil defense roles or in the border patrol unit of the German police (Bundesgrenzschutz/BGS), a paramilitary police force.

If it was really army it would be extremely rare and probably very sought after by enthusiasts.

If it's ex BGS or "Katastrophenschutz" or THW it's just a rusty old Hanomag, I'm afraid :D

Yes it is driving. Picked up 4 tons of gravel with it on Monday. Goes well but a non syncro gearbox so a bit of practice required for those of you under 50.
I've got its army release papers from July 96. It was originally fitted with a troop carrier body with gun racks and ammo containers. That has made a very handy garden shed.
I was talking to a German tourist a few years ago who was an army mechanic for 14 years. He said they had about 100 of these yokes in warehouses held in reserve and every 3 months they would service them and give tem a spin round the block-hence the low mileage-24000 km when I got it. 33000 km on it now and the only trouble I've had was a broken compesser belt and a couple of blown out tyres. Loads of torque but top speed only 60mph.
Its got a turett on the cab roof where you can stand up with your machine gun and it can even blow up its own tyres. Put it in the Buy and Sell for next week so I'll see what happens.:)
