Stolen bike - Trek 4300 Disc (Silver) - Leixlip train station

I know it happens every day of the week, but just thought I’d put details online of my bike which was stolen today.

It was a silver coloured Trek 4300 (’07 model) with front and rear disc brakes. It has two orange reflectors on both wheels, which I don’t believe are standard.

It was stolen today (Monday, October 22nd) from the bike shed at Leixlip Louisa Bridge train station while I was at work. Annoying thing is that I was so careful with it – even double locked it with really decent locks. Grrr!

It has been reported to the Gardai, and Irish Rail will check the CCTV tomorrow – although they aren’t hopeful. I have the full chassis number and serial number. I’ll call local bike shops in the morning and ask them to keep an eye out.

    Thanks.

Very frustrating. Sorry to hear of your loss.

And what in the name of Jaysus is the point of having a bike shed at a train station if your bike can just be robbed from it as easily as anywhere else?

    Cheers Ghost Rider.

The station has been very safe during the two years I have used it for this bike (and my previous bike). Apparently, there were 3 bike thefts in the last two weeks from the shed - and the girl at the ticket desk said these were the first she's heard of at the station (and she's been there for 2+ years).

Seems like somebody is targeting the place.

I'll stick the pic on the wall of my office. I'm right in the city centre just around from summerhill. I tend too see a lot of suspect looking skangers with decent bikes going by (specialised mtbs seem to be their brand of choice). If I spot it around here or on my travels I'll let you know. I might actually start taking pics with my phone and uploading them somewhere for suspect bikes I see. maybe someone might spot one of theirs.

As I've started to spend more money on bikes I've gotten a greater appreciation of what it must feel like to to have one stolen.

Very good idea for a website, that. Go for it.

Sorry to hear about your bike.
Can you let us know what locks you used? It'd be useful to know what level the scrotes are defeating.

I had two cable locks - the one I had at the rear (locking rear wheel and frame) was real thick, and had an overlapping steel jacket (can't find a link online).

I'll have a look around later for evidence to see if I can find out how the busted them open.

Never ever ever use a cable lock as your primary lock. Even the thickest ones can be got through using a bolt cutters. I cut an expensive cable lock using a standard bolt cutters in under 30 seconds before.

I know that now.... Should have done more research before getting the locks. Expensive lesson has been learned!

Sorry to hear that. Had a similar situation myself a few weeks back

How is the best way of ensuring thieving scum don't get away with your pride and joy?

At the moment I'm using a Kriptonyte Ulock and a fairly strong (10cm diameter) cable lock.

    Any other suggestions?
