    Howdi,
I have two Macs, one is in Cork and the other in Dublin. I sync'd my iPod (5th Gen 30GB Video) with my iMac in Cork. I would like to add mp3s from my macbook (Dublin) to my iPod but I get messages about having to format the disc before being able to do so. Is there anyway around this?

    Cheers,
    CM

how many accounts have you got linked to your subscription. You can have five computers linked to one account.

I am not sure if that is any help.

I think what you are referring to is iTunes - one account can be linked to 5 computers.

But OP want's to link his iPod to more than one Mac - not possible with Tiger, but maybe Leopard has a fix.

I link my ipod to a few macs... there is no problem... as long as the ipod is not set to auto sync. I switch my ipod between my work, home and home home machines all the time... rollo, same version of itunes etc etc? tried a firmware update on the pod?

What do you guys mean when you say link? I just want to be able to move music from my macbook onto my ipod and then to move music from my iMac onto my iPod.

I'm using the latest iTunes and running Tiger.

AFAIK an iPod can only be paired with one iTunes library at a time. This generally means just one machine.
If you want to put music from a different library (like one on a different machine) onto the iPod it erases all the music thats on it first.

There may be a way to get around this, but it probably won't be pretty and the meta information (number of times played, etc) will probably get all screwed up

Hence "There may be a way to get around this" :)

I do believe it can be done but I haven't needed to yet, so I'm just outlining what the intended behaviour is.
It's supposed to stop people filling their iPod up with music from friends libraries, etc, etc. :p

It seems I am wrong. According to this article an iPod can be synced with multiple authorized computers since iTunes version 7. :o
And here is the Apple KB doc to confirm it :o

    I'll get my coat

Never doubted ya for a second heh heh. This is exactly how I've managed all my iPods across my 3 or 4 Macs that they might be connected to.
