Spooted a VW variant

I've been into VWs for years but I've never had one. I want a pre '67 bug or a type 3. SInce I don't have the funds for a restored bug, I spotted this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1972-VOLKSWAGEN-VARIANT-vw-type-3-square-RETRO-CAMPER_W0QQitemZ140170228044QQihZ004QQcategoryZ18303QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem and I'm pretty impressed with it.

I've emailed and he'll end the auction for £3,250. Going by his body language, I'm fairly sure he'll pull it if he doesn't get this money and he didn't volunteer the reserve so I'm pretty sure it'll be £3,250 or bust. So it's basically a trade sale from a specialist for £3,250, which is ore than I'd like to spend. There was a near identical one running simultaneously and it was Buy It Now'd for £2,500.

SPOOTED!! I just saw that now:) BUUUAAHAHAHAHAHA

I think that they're a fantastic car - hard to find but not as expensive as you'd expect. I think that this one might be a little pricey but they are rare enough so maybe you have to jump when you find one. I don't like the bodywork disclaimer though - it covers a multitude.

I remember that Emilio had a pink one with orange flashing lights when I used to hang around his garage (around 1989 )- it was a labour of love but it had a tendency to start electrical fires and I remember engine access being a bit of a nightmare.

I'd buy one like a shot but probably not that particular one (I'd prefer original ones). Are there any UK VW enthusiasts sites with ones for sale?

Very rough though - think Emilio used to give out about the build quality...

I would do some research on Adam's history before buying anything, he has been involved in some dodgy antics on www.volkszone.co.uk/VZi/ (down at the moment)

Get in touch with Rugbydubs, his local club and ask lots of questions.

Just from a couple of emails he seems like a right ol' boyo. He's said some contradicting things and I don't trust him already...

Don't be put off, it does look like a great car. I would just get the full story before clicking the button. ;)

It seems like a lot of money for a late model variant. If it was a desirable early model I would say yes at that price if it was in great condition but as she stands I would walk away.
You've more or less answered your own question by saying he's contradicting himself. If you don't feel comfortable at all then don't feel you have to go through with it.

Well after calling me that I can't seem to remember now can I.;)
I can remember selling a fuel injection one, a fastback, for ten quid, another minter by the way to a few lads for banger racing of all things. American spec. with only 25k miles with loads of extras, but as usual nobody wanted it especially as it was lhd.

I think I'm going to throw up:D I know they're becoming fashionable again but the vws i've only ever really fancied were early bugs and type 3s, even when they weren't fashionable.

If you have any more VWs that you're going to consign to the earth, please think of your old mate, cantdecide...:p

Mental note: Give any old VW's to my old buddy candecide, of "junkyard is a f*cking b*stard" fame.:D As I said in an earlier post I don't dump things anymore because you just can't get stuff. My burial escapades were in the pre-EPA days.

You certainly wouldn't be the first to bury an unwanted VW. ;)

A buddy of mine has a US spec fastback that he wants me to "sort" for him. I think its a shed based upon a cursory glance but he likes it. I did get it running earlier this year, it had been laid up for years, and now he thinks I'm a VW expert !! :(

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
