Could anybody inform me on the law regarding home recording of programmes from RTE. Is it illegal to Video a programme and pass it onto someone else (if no money has exchanged hands and it is for the second partys private use only). Would it be illegal to tape a GAA match on a sunday and show it in public? Who knows about this?.

Both those examples are illegal. In UK law it is allowed to record broadcasts for timeshifting but not for archiving, distributing or public showing. In Irish law AFAIR there is not even a clause allowing timeshifting.

Aye, both examples are illegal but there's no chance anyone would ever be prosecuted for the first example.
I believe it'd also be illlegal to invite your friends over to watch a videotape for and that there's a limit on how many people should be able to watch a DVD you buy (it might only be yourself).
I imagine the only case where you could be caught is a public showing.
