How can I record use a laptop/ PC to record TV onto the Hard Drive?

Can I do it using windows Media Player 11 ? I have a connector which will connect the scart cable of the TV to the S video out . Will this help to provide a TV signal to the laptop??

You need a TV Tuner card. There are many different types, aim for a USB one for minimum hassle.

No. The card above will come with software which will enable you to record TV. Media Player can be used to watch the recorded programs.

    Full details over here.

I've highlighted the important word. OUT. By this, I mean output, as opposed to input. It outputs a signal from your notebook, but it won't take an input of a signal.

I thought as much about the S Video out . how much would a TV tuner card cost?
Can i fit the card externally and work it off a usb port?

Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-USB2 - It's a bit big for a USB device but it's a hardware MPEG2 encoder which is what you need if you want decent quality recording.

An analog tuner card/usb device will pick up whatever your tv/vcr will.
I.E stick an ariel in your tv ,you get rte1/2 etc.
