Work in the States

    Hi all

I am very interested in going to the States for a few months in the new year. I have been to Chicago already and would now like to go to New york for a while - when I say a while I would seriously like to make the move more permanent

I was just wondering if anybody knows anything about working there, What I want to do is try to get some work in the financial sector - I currently work for an inestment bank in Dublin and like this type of work.

Is it possible that investment banks in say New York would take on someone like me?

Any help is appreciated thanks a million

First question before you even consider moving, do you have a green card because you'll need one to work short of a temporary move internally.

If you wanted to move to US, could you do it if you worked in Financial services but didn't have a Degree? I've heard it's hard even with a postgrad, could you really do it without one?
    Thank You

If you're an extremely valuable employee then they may sponsor you to join the H1B visa lottery?

    Oh, here we go again.

The H1B visa program is not a lottery. It is a visa program to source highly qualified employees outside the US and permit them to work in the US.

The Diversity Lottery is, as it's name suggests, a lottery, where you enter and "win" a green card.

You would want to have highly specialised qualifications/experience to get work in the US. You can't just up sticks and work there.

Would it be difficult to get a US VISA with say just a postgrad in Economics or something?

Going on the top of my memory from a few years ago they company had to show that the skills required for the position could not be found available in USA. That included advertising in US wide publications of appropriate type etc. and filing papers with the state to show all the steps the company had taken to find someone suitable. Short version is if you're not a specialist forget about it until you have a green card.

Sure - you just need to be legal.
