what bb/100 is generally considered sustainable at .50/1;1/2;2/4, is there a highest number? ie if phil ivey was playing .50/1

Over a reasonable amount of hands(20K,30K) 4,5,6, BB/100 is extremely respectable. Anything around 10 or higher is quite extraordinary and is usually temporary, relating to a "hot" run or will be over quite a small sample.

I think hj beat it for 10-12bbs/100 over a good sample.

    (1) Are we talking about big blinds, or poker tracker big bets in this thread?

    (2) What are poker tracker big bets?

imo 10BB/100 (ie 5ptBB) + is easily sustainable at 1/2, given even semi decent game selection.

    At 2/4 I think 8BB/100 is sustainable.

Higher it's not, players are just not bad enough, and also it's harder to game select easily because player pool is smaller

    Slightly conflustered here.......... ????

    1 ptBB(pokertracker Big Bet) = 2bbs(standard big blinds)

Is that what you lads are on about??

The BB amount is 2 x big blind.
This was the way it was measured long before pokertracker, most likely started as BB/hr in live limit games (hence why big bet was used as opposed to big blind)
If someone uses the big blind amount when posting their stats it is a little misleading people, maybe unintentional, maybe not.

I think its only meaningful above 20k hands...and you dont get a true indication until around 100k. Just play with the simulator that Phantom Lord posted in the BB sticky to get a feel for it. The general idea is the 10ptbb is pretty much as good as you'll get at $50nl and above. 3+ is ok though.
    Example of the volatility:
Say you're running at 5ptbb/100 over 10k hands and you go all in pf twice and lose with the best hand in one short session. You'd then be sitting at 4ptbb instead of 6ptbb. Such is the effect of 2 hands over a sample of 10000!

    ptbbs.

    ptbbs=2big blinds.

at levels below 5/10,i don't think you should move up until you're beating your current level for 5ptbb/100 (10 big blinds) over a significant sample size. at 5/10 and up,3pt/100 is good.

You could be a 'true' 7ptBB/100 winner and play 100k hands at 3ptBB/100 just because of variance IMO. It would be a bit of a waste of time if you kept grinding instead of moving up.

yeah but you could also be a "true" 1ptbb/100 winner and move up after running at 3pt/100 for a while,in general i think people are more likely to err on the side of moving up too soon than not soon enough so its best to be cautious

Does it make a difference how many players are at the table?

If 5ptbb/100 is a good benchmark for shorthanded, is it the same for full ring or is it 5*6/10 = 3 ptbb/100?
