Classic old fool

Im 34 separated with a toddler. After a tough time Ive finally got back on my feet and ready to face the world again..or so I thought. I met this girl and Ive totally fallen for her. We get on like a house on fire but I havent let her know my feelings towards her.

    Why?

Thing is shes 21. Shes so full of the joys of life its unreal. Last week I took her out to dinner and she just seemed to be so interested in me and really enjoying our time together. We sat in the pub after and had a great chat and things couldnt have been better until she had to go home (her da was waiting for her!!)

I have no idea what to do with the situation. I feel like and old fool just blinded by a pretty face and big smile. She texts me everyday now wondering when can we go out again and just wondering what Im up to. She just seems to be from such a different generation and into a different world than me. She talks about Aha and Aztec Camera as she loves the 'old stuff'.

Am I just an old fool? Isnt this just a disaster waiting to happen?

Wtf are those and I'm older than 21? Bands or some model of
    camera?

Does show know about the toddler? Kudos btw on being a single parent, it's not easy.
If so, go for it as what's holding you back.

And please, when did 34 become old?

The only thing that would bother me in your situation was the fact that her father was waiting for her.... I mean come on!

Other than that, don't think so much OP! You're back on your feet so just have fun, enjoy it's while it's there however long that would be.

What's the problem? You've met a nice 21-year-old girl who you seem to get on like a house on fire with. She appears to hang on your every word and texts you every day. Trying hard to see the negatives here... really, I am.

If you like her and she likes you, you should continue to go out with one another. If your relationship continues to build into the future, you'll face enough hurdles together without you making up imaginary obstacles.

Be frank with her about the fact that you're already a dad, and let things develop from there. I'm sure you're probably afraid of getting hurt, but that's life... you'll just have to deal with whatever happens.

By the way, I'm 34 and single myself, not a prospect in sight to be totally frank, and friends getting happily married all around me. I certainly don't feel "old", and I'm not giving up, but by golly I'd prefer to be in your situation, with a pretty 21-year-old wondering what I'm up to every day!

well im 21, and i know aha. even though aztec camera goes over my head..

anyway, shure throw yourself at it and see what happpens. its pretty obvious you are already too emotionally invested to just be friends so now its either closure or dragged out misery.

seems like an easy choice. maybe it blows up in your face and you lose her.. but at least you wont be sat there wishing all the time

Hey OP -- I do NOT think you are being an old fool -- 34 are ya mad??
old is like.. 70 or something! (I'm 24 by the way)

I have a friend who is 25 about to have her first baby - she's with a guy who's.... 32 ish.. (he's divorced with 2 kids from previous relationship - they live in spain with their mother but he does get to see them). They're getting married next year & they're mad about each other (I know its a smaller age gap but just proving a point). They're into different things and from different backgrounds/timeframes but they merge on their own levels.

The fact her dad was waiting on her isn't an issue (*I* don't think -- heck my parents still leave the light on for me and I need to let them know when /if I'll be home -- it's what parents do)

My best friend is a single mother & it can be tough -- esp to get out there and meet someone -- and if this girl is into you the way you say, and you're mad about her -- they why can't it work? You're not looking to marry her (not yet anyway lol) and if she doesn't see it as an issue why should you?

I say go for it! If she's happy & you're happy .. then that's all that matters :)

In fairness if I had a 21yr old daughter who was meeting up with a 34 year old man I'd wait for her too! There are some weirdos out there...

OP, I'm 34 and my last fling was with a 23-year-old girl. Nowt wrong with it if yer both adults and get along well!

MonkeyTennis - I say go for it! her father won't be collecting her forever!

You sound happy about it as does she so why not? Age is merely a number, and who cares if you don't have the same memories of growing up etc etc. You're in the "here & now" NOW and so is she (ye are both mature adults in 2007) and ye get on great together!!!

Go for it Go for it Go for it! :D
