I love my one of these...
    es135-guitar.jpg

,it's excellent for those deep jazzy tones
you could pick up the epi version for around your budget i'd say

how does it sound with the p90's ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,355 ✭✭✭punchdrunk

    it's got p100's
gibson had a thing for these back in the early 90's

    they're actually stacked humbuckers,not true p-90's
they're okay, very nice clean but sound a bit flat when overdriven though
i keep meaning to get some lollar p-90's for it
it's a thin guitar, only slightly deeper than a les paul so you don't feel like a clown when your rockin on it like you would with an ES 175,Troy from QOTSA has a lovely wine red one

    aye phat cats are deadly!
that lad from the strokes is very fond of his hummer sized p-90's,i think they've got great tone (regardless of what people think of their songwriting)

dunno if they'd fit my guitar though. Must take a photo of it when i get home.
Maybe i should start another thread...apologies to OP:)

My first hollow was a Sheraton, I still have it, I still play it, I still love it! It's super versatile.

    Yep, its a lovely guitar...

    sheraton isn't hollow though.
and is pretty much the same thing as a 335 dot with a different tailpiece on the sheraton I, (sheraton II has the standard stoptail piece) and fancier binding and inlays. (looks uglier i reckon)

i think the only fully hollow guitars made by epiphone are the casino and the sorrento. haven't seen the sorrento around for a few years, but they're really, really nice.
casinos get good reviews, i'm on the lookout for one to snap up. haven't played one though.

one thing is certain though: epi make some great hollow and semi hollow electrics in your price range.

yeah my sorrento is completely hollow no centre block like the 135,
    it's pretty rockin orange too!

    running with the offtopicness!!

yer fella (nick valensi) from the strokes uses a custom epiphone riviera
whick is loaded with gibson p94's - you can buy one off the shelf now...

I agree with punchdrunk, the strokes have dishy tones
and i think the way the guitarists interact is superb
(tell me reptilia isnt a masterpiece!?)

I have a couple of GFS mean 90's (hot-tish bucker sized 90's) on the way
they are going into my old aria 335 copy, (my project guitar)
nick valensi was the inspitation for trying this...
