The lens you have specified doesn't look right, the E400 is a fine camera but beware of Olympus kits from Dixons/Currys. Make sure that the lens is is the 14-42 or 14-45 not the 17.5-45 and that the camera has a Lithium_ion rechargeable battery not just an adaptor to take AA's.

If you search a little on the net you should get a very good price on a E400 as the newer model is the E410.

I presume you mean the E-400?
    It's a fairly good camera.
I have the Canon 400D & it's a great camera for someone new to digital SLRs.

I'd give you the standard advice though. Go into the shop, pick up both models & see which one suits you best.

Don't forget to post your pictures here. :)

I just went through a similar decision process, Canon 400D vs Olympus E410/E510.

Other people mention what are you going to use the camera for?? This is a good question to ask yourself. Aslo, going into a shop and holding, taking pictures with both is what swayed me to the Olympus.

In the end I got the Olympus E510 with a dual lens kit online from germany becuase of built-in IS and bigger grip. Very happy with it, and friends of mine who are Canon & Nikon owners were very impressed with it.

I would prob avoid the E-400 and look for an E-410 if I were you, the single lens kit has got great reviews. Have a look for reviews/comparisons online too, www.dpreview.com, offical reviews and the forum is always interesting reading.

hope this helps, but will prob start adding to your confusion!

    regards,
    Ciaran
