    IMHO:

I think its a nice shot, but I'm not sure what its about. is it the ring? The hands? The fabric? Its too busy. I think it would work much better if you had a stronger subject, so if its hands (as the title suggests) I'd give a tighter crop and convert to B&W. The fabric colour is too strong and distracting, as is that bit of purple on the right.

    Bedouin tents in Blanch?

Maybe a change to b&w but very nice though and full of character. Didnt know there were Bedouin tents in Blanchardstown but you live and learn!! :)

hmm odd one, not the photo, I downloaded the file to try out desaturating but the file I see on flickr is very different from the flickr. I think you may have saved the file as a different color space, then when I open it in PS it can open that space ?

have a look at the attachment and this discussion

The lady in question wanted to display her gold bracelet and I liked the link with the gold colour in the fabric. I learned that it takes nine metres of fabric to make her dress.

Thanks for the feedback I will have a go at converting to monochrome and see what the effect is like. The Bedouin tent was on the Verona soccer club grounds and was part of the Celebrate multicultural festival in Dublin 15.

I have gone back to the original snap and changed the colour space to sRGB which I hope will be more faithful on Flickr. I have also recropped.

2nd post crop and colour space definitely works much better. does the purple sleeve (bottom right) work in the context of the overall picture? i'm not sure. like sinead, i'd still be somewhat wondering what its about (without your explanation). as i said, i do think 2nd post is better. cheers.

I think that works much better:) But yep I'm still noticing that purple too much. I can see what you're saying now with the gold. Lovely shot...

I like it Dave. It does show something of the character of the person. I kind of like the business of it TBH. Even the purple. It maybe has something to do with her religion?

Amazing how the "right" colour space effects an image!

Thanks Danny. I think the purple colour of the henna on her finger tips is very unusual too. She was taking the part of a Sudanese bride although she told me she has been married for seven years.
