    Very very bad.

WD40 is petroleum based, and petroleum based oil eats rubber for dinner - so the rubber gas seals in your pistol and mag would be destroyed pretty quickly.

    Use silicon oil only.

You see that two minute gap between your original post and my answer ?
That's how long I spent wondering whether to answer as an airsofter who doesn't want you to damage your pistol, or a retailer who wants to sell you a replacement :D

    I'm joking, of course.
It only took one minute 45 seconds to decide.

lol., a good call in the end.,:D Ill get some silicone oil from ya when you get the propane adapters in and i might be tempted to go for the glock 19 ive been looking at on your site.,lol

Actually, now that you mention it.....

I heard from Airsoft Innovations the other day (the guys who make the propane adapter), and the batch that's on its way to me now includes a 5oz bottle of silicon oil with each adapter, so you wont need to buy silicon oil just to spray on the nozzle of the propane cannister.

cool, i wasnt really sure how the whole adapter and oil thing worked, i take it you injected some of it into the mag so that it goes up through the gun with the gas?

Every 10 or so fills, you spray some silicon oil onto the nozzle of the propane cannister, then attach the adapter and fill your mag. Some oil gets transferred into the mags with the gas, and lubricates your pistol as the gas travels through.

That's the only difference between green gas and propane - green gun gas has silicon oil already added. Oh....and something to disguise the smell :)

    cheers shiva,
propane is a lot cheaper than green gas so handy to know.,
will keep an eye on the site for the adapters and give ya a shout..,;)

And that's the reason I'm going back to green gas. Unless someone can make a dropper bottle of deodeuriser I can put in with the propane.

You used to be able to buy a deodorizer dropper bottle (tiny tiny bottle)
where you would put 2-3 droplets of it into your Kitchens bin or your wheelie
bin. It was supposed to be so effective that it would remove or mask the smell o
of the bin. Have not seen it in the shops in years they used to sell it in Tescos.

I wonder if oil you use on those aromotherpy things where you place a few
drops of it in water and then use a candle to heat up the water and make the
    scent evaporate would work.

massively off topic, but what shiva outlined above is also why you never use oil based lube with condoms, unless you want babies.

i'd actually be tempted to try that, but i'd imagine the aromatherapy oils would not be good for the mag or the gun

Here, Vtec just a slight bit of advise, im not to sure how thick the little bit of oil ya get with the new propane adapters are but the bottle that came with mine [older version] was realy realy thick and messed up one of m9's for quite a while as the oil made the hammer and the trigger stick and move too slowly causing all sorts of annoyance's. Id reccomend getting a seperate can of silicone spray for lubing and just use the one that comes with the adapter for the adpter.

Ive read elsewhere that there is a power difference between, lets call it airsoft gas (coz im including bith green and red) and propane but has anyone here had a real live experience of it who can tell me whether it is less powerful than the airsoft gas?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

i think green gas and propane are the same thing, as for red isnt that less powerful than the others?.,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

i find propane gives a bit more kick than green gas in terms of blow back, but havent really noticed much in the range, havent tested with red gas yet

when i get a chrono ill test with both in the same gun and see the difference

red is more powerful than green

    basically it's

    134a < green gas/propane < red gas

green/propane are supposedly identical in terms of pressure etc.. but personally i find propane a tiny bit more powerful as i said above

oh right., got it the other way around,

where do you get your propane? is it the same stuff that they use for the those camping fire thingys?

Same experience. I'd say this is due to the lube in green gas. The same volume is in the mags but with green a very small portion of that is lube, which doesnt expand rapidly when it meets the air.

Well it all depends if you want your gun to work or not.

The reason for using silicone oil is that it will not damage rubber o-rings in your gun,wd40 and other oils will damage them.
