As a real steel shooter I got hang ups and issues about getting a so called "sniper" rifle in airsoft I am reluctant to buy one cos your still talking probably
less that 20-30m effective range with inconsistent results when it comes to aiming at the same target point.

I was firing my CA Aug today out the back garden to try and Zero the optical sight. The AUG fired fine at the targets
(Cardboard box and old CD's and clays)
but with each shot it varied a bit even though I or the wind was
not the cause of the variance so it was almost pointless trying to fine tune
the cross hairs. But........it was so much FUN to be able to plink away without
the worry of using real ammo and having to make sure you did not have a backstop a few meters high and having to travel 2hrs to the nearest range.

For VERY short range fun ie out the back garden up against a wall say
10m range I would like to try and buy a piece of airsoft equipment that
is Quite (so I don't disturb the neighbors) and capable of hitting the
same target over and over again with very little variance if the wind conditions and the shooters aim does not change.

Basically I want to be able "simulate" shooting on a smaller scale
with as much realism as possible, and is a very safe way.

Is there anything out there that is Highly consistent its its firing of BB's?

I Was tempted but the Tokyo Marui VSR 10 G-Spec on Eirsoft but its so plain and boring looking and for the same price I could buy and licence real steel air-rifle (Which I don't want to do as my aim is to have fun with safety in mind and without the hassle of licenses etc)

I want to be able to aim at a target at a range I know the Airsoft is capable of hitting
and being able to hit the same spot over and over again.

My upgraded sr16 was shooting 292-291.

I see your dilemma bullets, the problem mate is is the nature of the projectile i.e. a 6mm spherical plastic ball, and the fact that there is no rifling in the barrell!! thats why your getting a few flyers no matter the stediness of the hand or windage. From your posts i see that your old school like myself ain't the FN beautiful!! just can't beat it for downright hardness!

As anything else you've fired real steel you could put em in a group at a certain range all day long! with little or none outside the target so I think you'll just have to find the most accurate(and quiet) one you can find, and when they go astray, blame the earths rotation! thats what I do and it works for me everytime:D:D

hmmm... consistency, a very difficult thing to find in airsoft

from the airsoft guns i own, my p90 is probably the most consistent, with a red dot scope zero'd at about 15metres, it's pretty reliable

forget about anything with blowback, even with an incredibly steady hand, the gun will move with each shot

I was hoping a good long and tight barrel and a good hop up may be
enough for consistent 10m shooting, it probably be happy
if it was good enough to get 2inch groups considering the barrel
    was smooth bore.

If I was to get a springer that is as close to the legal limit that is allowed I may well be able to plink away happly without becoming a noisey nucience to the folks next door to me.

AEG motor fire and GBB is a little loud when you want to plink and not cause
    any attention to yourself.

The FN in real steel is a pet love of mine and always was since I was a teenager so it goes without saying ts my Favourite AEG although
the build quality and performance of the CA AUG has topped everything
else I own so far! with the M14 and FAL coming in 2nd and 3rd place.

One other thing I have to think of when firing airsoft goodies out my
back garden is firing them at something that wont cause them to
ricochet everyplace. Several times off rocks etc they have bounced
and flew off on random directions. I dont want them bouncing next door.

Well there's always the 8mm option? It's got a more stable flight trajectory and, from what I hear, 8mm rifles are more consistent with groupings and flight paths. Also you can get them in both spring and gas variants so you can shoot away quite silently.

Another option is a tightbore barrel with a heavier round. Of course, that will also reduce velocity so there's a trade off.

Edit - scratch the question, I figured it out with a calculator and my old physics lessons. 268fps on a .30g 8mm round it seems.

the problem is, is there any 8mm airsoft guns that are under 1J?

Anyone here got anything in Legal 8mm ?

Yeah I was just about to go surfin for something in 8mm. Hopefully
ammo would not be an issue getting. Some of the sites I saw 8mm airsofts
before did not mention the fps so did not know if they were OK or not.
If possible and peeps here can suggest something I would like to be
able to buy Irish. Dunno if there is anything out there that comes
factory stock with a tight barrel.

Lot heavier so the FPS must be a lot lower, doesnt really suit 1J areas.

    8mm .30g rounds = 268fps limit
Heavier rounds will drop the fps while the energy level stays the same.
If you're backyard plinking then it won't matter all that much over 10m.

Yes - I've got an M1 Garand that uses 8mm.

    0.36G (Lowest weight I've seen) - 250fps = 1J

How do you find that M1, I realllllyy want one of those but it's a big price for something I've heard little to nothing about.

I don't care how much it costs, how good it is, how bad it is, how accurate it is, or how far it can shoot......if it does that awesomely cool "K-Ting!" sound when the clip ejects - I'm buying one :D

If it made that noise I'd spend all day firing clips that only have 2 shots left in them and screaming "I need another bandolier!!!!"

If I remember correctly, it does make that noise. It's rather sexy. I wonder if there's a 6mm version?

'Smokey's U.S.M1 Garand Rifle' on Red Wolf Airsoft

I would like to highlight the statement:
power is a good 258fps with standard HFC134a gas.
Which is nice when they stock .35 and .45 8mm bbs. Which would lead me to believe that they tested it with .35 g BBs.

But the Marushin version is also available.
Tokyo Hobby can be quoted saying:
All the unique features of M1 Garand are included with this Marushin production including the empty clip ejection with distinctive "Ping!" ejection sound.

Which is nice, but it fails to tell us the power of the gun.
So, back to Red Wolf Airsoft
    Who say:
Quality is extremely high and power is a good with standard HFC134a gas (do not use gas stronger than HFC134a!). Shoots 240fps using 0.34g 8mm BBs!

    So, I want one. Yes?
