    The truth about 1080p
In Australia, we're finally starting to see HD TVs with 1080p native resolution, which typically cost a good deal more than their lower-resolution counterparts. But as we've been saying, once you get to high-def, the difference between resolutions becomes much more difficult to appreciate. We've done side-by-side tests between a 50-inch 720p HD TV and a 50-inch 1080p HD TV using the same 1080i source material, and it was extremely difficult for us to see any difference. It becomes even more difficult at smaller screen sizes or farther seating distances -- say, more than 1.5 times the diagonal measurement of the screen.
We're not telling you to ignore 1080p HD TVs. They technically do deliver more detail, which can enhance the viewing experience for more eagle-eyed viewers. Also, many manufacturers build other picture-quality benefits, such as better contrast and/or colour, into their 1080p HD TVs simply because those sets are the high-end models. Today, however, the premium for 1080p is still pretty steep, and unless you're getting a very large set, say 60 inches or more, we don't recommend basing a buying decision on whether or not the television has 1080p native resolution.

The above taken from here ,

    http://www.cnet.com.au/tvs/0,239035250,339271051,00.htm

And having compared a lot of TV's , I would say this is 100% fact ,

The Term " Full HD " is a BS marketing term , trying to get you to spend more than you need too and guide you to the more expensive sets in the shop ,
If picture quality is your main concern , and it should be , then at the 37 -40 inch bracket aim for a 1366 x 768 plasma , anything over 720 lines is HD full stop , Full HD , True HD etc are rubbish nonsensical terms , I'd only consider shelling out for a 1080p set if it was bigger than 60 inchs or a projector , anything smaller and you simply wont see the benefit. And to be honest , the improvement from 720p to 1080p is a small one.

As an example of how nonsensical the term is , here is a visual representation of current and future HD resolutions ,

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:UHDV.svg

As you can see , there are at least another 3 higher resolutions in existence , the only thing keeping 1080p at the current max resolution is the broadcasting companies bandwidth limits , however Digital cinema 2K and 4K may well become available for home media within the next couple of years , making your " Full HD " set not as Full as they said it was. And even at that , the screen size would have to be massive to see the benefit.

Another option which should fit the budget is the

SHARP LC37XD1E 37" Full HD LCD. If it anything like is big brother the LC42XD1E you won't go far wrong.

Toshiba looks like the least worst option if you're concerned about SD It's debatable if shudder free LCD TVs actually exist yet.

Are you sure the LG in Dunnes is 1080p?

I saw one in my local Dunnes, and I was pretty sure it was a 768p plasma. Could be wrong though.

If you do manage to get the model number, post back.

I'll check Dunnes this weekend, though the one I saw will probably be sold.
