Installing Leopard - Clean or "Dirty"?

Hey guys, as I'm going to be in New York next Friday, I'm going to pick up Leopard ASAP, and I'm wondering about the relative merits of a clean install versus just upgrading.

I know that a clean install may produce a faster system (temporarily, surely?), but as I would be reinstalling everything I use regularly, would it make much sense for me? Also, will doing a clean install of Leopard affect my Bootcamp Partition?

Basically, is a clean install worth the hassle?

Oh, and does anyone au fait with NYC know anywhere around the whole Fifth Ave, Times Square, all-that-sort-of-stretch area where I could pick up an external harddrive for cheaper than over here? It's something I've been meaning to get for ages and if I'm convinced that a clean install is the way to go then it'll be a fairly necessary purchase just for backing up.

    Thanks in advance!

do a search on this on www.macrumors.com forums there are plenty of thread debating the pro´s and cons. Alot of people I think seem to prefer the archive and install option as a middle of the road. Of course you would need an external hardrive to backup your mac first

the apple store on 5th avenue sells external drives, failing that i do remember seeing a small electrical store in the basement of macys that had external hard drives. But there are loads of small electrical stores that do computers and cameras that should have em.. as for price, give the exchange rate, it should work out alot cheaper buying there..
