Hi! I'm goin to a mates birthday party today. He's an Aussie and been living here for a little over a year. Is there any Aussie beers I can take him that he wouldn't normally be able to get. He doesn't live in Dublin and rarely makes it up there so he hasn't had much chance to peruse the various Aussie bars!

Any ideas? VB / Fosters etc are available everywhere! I'm looking for that obscure beer!

Cooper are a very good range, you can general get the sparkling/pale ale and some times there stout, which is really fantastic and better than Guinness. They also do a dark ale if you can get it.

Tooheys new/old and Bluetongue they are the best of the yellow fizzy stuff that is unfortunately produced and available over here

    Hmm.

The most popular beers in Australia are VB, Carlton Draught, Carlton Cold.

But, if you can get your hands on Crown Larger, definitely do it. It's like a 'premium beer' over there. Always sells for more than the others in pubs/bottle shops.

Another nice one is the Boags stuff, it's a Tasmanian beer, and seems to be fairly popular around Melbourne and the state of Victoria, not so much in NSW/Queensland.

Also popular is the Coopers' stuff, they doa variety of beers, ales and largers, and even a stout.

My personal favourite when i lived over there was Hahn Premium, but I have NEVER seen it on sale here.

Are you in Dublin? If so, head into the Woolshed on Parnell Street to see a good selection of Aussie beers. Not tonight though, it'll be packed with the RWC Final on.

    Where is he from?

Tooheys Old is a black ale. Not larger.
