Hi Irish brothers! I'm currently working in the states 4 years since graduating from UCD. I am currently about to start employment with a large software company in the US and they called UCD to check my academic record. Its been 3 years since I've been back to Ireland so I don't have a transcript, any idea why they wont give out my results? I thought all employers called educational institutions to verify results and that they were just given out?

If I were you I'd phone the Student Desk at UCD early on Monday morning and ask them if there is any way that your employer can get verification from them and if not arrange to have a transcript mailed/faxed to you (no doubt for a fee).

Thats what I will be doing Leeroy, i've had transcripts up until this point. But I honestly thought that employers could call up colleges and get the results. Thats pretty much the way it works over here.

I would suggest that recent moves to more strictly imposed data protection legislation and a better general awareness of data protection issues has resulted in that practice ending.

I'd say it's for data protection. Sure I could ring up pretending to be an employer and ask for all my friends' results.
I'd say they'll post them to the address you have on file or want some form of proof of ID send to them first.

In Trinity, all you have to do is go in to the Berkley library and look at the university calendar (part II) and there you will find all your mates' results (presuming you know what year they graduated in).

The feckers charge €20 for a transcript!! I went to Trinity and a university in Manchester and neither of them charge a penny for them and even post them to you.
UCD administration are a pile of ****s in my book.

In UCC the first request for a transcript used to cost €10. Any subsequent requests were free.

I had to get a copy of my undergrad degree from UCD for a recent job application- I was charged EUR20, but got my postgrad printouts gratis.
