having a halloween party next week and want to have a little room set up with a webcam (connected via a usb extension cable to the laptop upstairs) so ppl can go in and talk crap all nite. Just wondering about recommendations for the best type of camera for the job? probably won't be using it again so don't want to be paying too much. is there a webcam with a record button directly on it so its not just a constant capture on the laptop? also whats the best software to use for capturing it on the laptop? the quality doesn;t need to be that good so hopefully i won't need a crazy amount of hard drive space.

sorry if these are basic questions but nothing much showing up on google cept to do with security and motion detection webcams so if you know of a gud article to direct me to then please do. or if im in the wrong forum than apologies!

    cheers ppl:D

I think it's more about the software you use. If the camera doesn't come with good software you could use VLC. VLC will pick up most capture sources, and will then let you stream/record to a file in a compressed format such as mp4, which would mean that you set it up to record and leave run all night without needing too much disk space. Its not very user friendly to setup, but does work well if you can figure it out

As far as the camera, usually the more you pay the better the results, something from logtech should be safe enough, but even a budget camera should work.
