    Hey guys,
After seeing a fender champion in another thread i'm thinking i might take the plunge so i have an amp that i can really drive to overdrive without bursting my eardrums. I just have a few questions: I'm going to upgrade the valves from the get go, and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations? ( I'm a Blues player who likes warm tones). And does the amp have a preamp out? so i can hook it up to my blues deluxe?

JJ/Teslas, or if you like it a little cleaner, Harma's from Watford Valves.

Yeah the teslas look good, i was actually looking at them as an option but i dont know too much about valves. I'm looking at the ecc83s which i believe are 12ax7's for the preamp.

i've looked at the champion 600 and though not bad,it's not amazing
the problem everyone is talking about is the 6' speaker is just too small and lacking in the bass department
i really doubt theres a preamp out as it doesn't even have a tone pot!

i'm in the market for a champ sized amp for home and so far this fella with the 10' speaker option is the best i've found, the way i figure it i'd rather spend the extra on a better amp than spend the money on new valves/speaker for the reissue

Well i went ahead and bought the amp with some jj tesla valves, i'm on a tight enough budget and fancied moding an amp and figured that the champ was a cheap and sturdy base to do so from, I'll have to see what the speaker's like before i go and upgrade that. From what i've heard the speaker is surprisingly responsive for a cheap 6 incher with decent bass responce, so it'll have to do for the mo'. I read up on quite a lot of reviews and the majority seem to agree it's a great little amp, by no means a main amp, but a nice practice amp ill report back when it arrives.

Yeah, 12AX7 is just the American designation for ECC83. They're the same spec valve.

The champ only has one in it's preamp. I may be wrong, but I assume that you can't reach the level or impedence necessary for a line out in a single valve preamp - but I'm just guessing based on the fact that I've never seen one in a guitar amp.

You're probably right about the preamp being under powered. Thanks for the info about the American v rest of the world for specing valves 'twas a bit confusing but i went for the ecc83 anyway. It should be an interesting bit of kit to mess around with, i have plans to upgrade the speaker which could be interesting, I'm buying it to mod it, and to have a small practice amp to go along with my much loved blues deluxe, it'll be nice to crank it without the madness of the deluxe for volume. Thanks Again.
