I have been having a problem for the last week or so and hopefully someone here can help. Whats happening is when I boot up the pc everything starts up as normal and my wallpaper appears but it takes at least a minute for my desktop icons to appear. I have disabled most startup items and my desktop only has only 5 icons. I tried a startup optimizer program (name eludes me) that was recommend on a post similar to this but that has not helped. Not a major issue but being a self confessed computer geek it is annoying me I cant fix it

presuming that you have emptied your startup folder and unticked (some of) the items in the startup tab in Msconfig, I would think that perhaps you have some spyware that is kicking in when you boot up.

    Some other ideas:
You didnt set up any logon scripts to run by any chance?
You don't have 2 Antivirus progs installed?

Have a look at the task manager on startup and see what is soaking up CPU or RAM. Identify the process.

Have a look at all the programs that are running that you probably don't even need.

Also could be a spyware or trojan problem!
