Thought I'd make a thread since I guess this should be pretty popular. To coincide with the start of the Tokyo Motor Show (Oct 23 - Oct 25) a demo of GT5 Prologue will be released on the Japanese PSN store tomorrow (20 Oct). Apparently, it looks like the demo will be available for a limited time until Nov 11, so get it while it's hot :)

Some details of the demo - there'll be 7 cars - Lexus IS-F, Nissan GT-R, Mazda Atenza, Subaru Impreza WRX STi, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR, Daihatsu OFC-1 and BMW 135i Coupe. A number of these, like the new Nissan GT-R, have actually yet to be officially unveiled. They are to be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show, and they'll be covered and unaccessible until they are unveiled at the show.

There'll be one circuit, Suzuka. With a 16-car race (single-player), and time trial too apparently. The demo will also feature a sample of GT-TV, with videos from the Tokyo Motor Show, as well as text news from the world of motoring.

Now, let's just hope the PSN doesn't completely fall apart tomorrow so we can download it in a timely fashion ;)

Well, prologue is several tracks, dozens of cars, online play etc. etc. etc. It's more than your usual demo.

And yeah, it's only on the Japanese PSN store. It's pretty straightforward to set up an account though, there are guides out there on the web.

I found an online guide somewhere - for the address the first line needs to be a three digit number (ie 123) and then the rest of the lines can be random garbage, then pick the first option from the drop down box.

    That worked for me.

ah. i was putting the digits on the second last line

    Its up now

i downloaded it last night and just had a quick go on it.

    first impressions...

everything looks and works as it should, but as with previous incarnations its more of an evolution than a revolution.

i can't see any real differences in handling, but then that was probably only tweaked from older versions, rather than being completely re-done. if it's not broke, don't fix it.

the GT-R is covered up front & back for now too, and one of the other cars is covered up entirely with a cloth and not usable with "coming soon" written in front of it.

there's still somewhat of a lack of depth to the track backgrounds when you're racing, they've gone all out on the car details again, but the background and grass etc. still seems very plain compared to some other games. maybe that'll change in the final version.

that said, the replays are fantastic just as we were promised and all the sweeping cameras angles make everything come alive.

so, all in all pretty much what I was epxecting. i'll probabyl get prologue when it comes out, but I think I'll be bored of it by the time the full GT5 hits the shelves.

Feel pretty much the same as vibe. Looks pretty and presses all the right GT buttons but the handling doesn't feel like it has moved on and tbh it needs an upgrade. Its no where near as realistic as "the real driving smiulator" name implies.

    EDIT: menudi1.jpg
Driving options nicked from another forum.

as a long time GT fan this doesn't disappoint. looks stunning, great physics model, etc. etc.

i'm disappointed they didn't include the in-car view though.

It does, press Select while playing :)

Or it does for the Lancer at least.

Well the game looks gorgeous and plays really well when you're actually driving, but I have to say I thought the opposite of everyone else about replays. There's too much aliasing on the cars I thought. You don't notice any while playing (and cars look stunning as you come up behind them), but the sweeping replay cameras really make it stand out, especially in a game that's so close to photo-realism and really makes your eyes more critical.

That said, I like the handling and it's nice having a lot more cars on track. Crashes seem to cause you to lose control a little more, which I guess is an answer to the bumper cars problem but it doesn't really stop you. Easy solution to that is just to not do it though :) Overall I'm impressed, need to try all of the different cars and see how they handle now.

ah, must just be the first car that doesn't have it. i assumed all the others didn't...

i heard that the Skyline gets it's cloth off on the 23rd, the day the show starts. not sure about any others.

Nice demo... Love the cockpit views. My only nitpick graphically is the aliasing on the shadows inside the cars. I'd be pleased if they fixed that up.

Is the GT-TV content in english? Haven't bothered looking at it yet, but noticed they'd added some.

thread bump to say all cars are unlocked bar the "secret" one. the nissan has a sexy intro video to show it off (the in-car dash was designed by polyphony strangely enough)

Just got a PS3 yesterday, where do you download the GT game from?

I guess the new one you're referring to is not the GT HD Ver 2.0 thats available on the Irish PS Store site? (690Mb) DL'd it overnight and it seems different to the one mentioned in this thread.

since the thread is revived, how are we finding it? i love it. i've calmed down playing it now because naturally 1 track with only a handful of cars over the space of 2 laps gets old, but i love the game. if i make a mistake, unlike previous GT games, it feels like i can recover from it.

i want so badly to get this game online :D

Not impressed at all. Handling doesn't feel realistic and isn't satisfying, it still has the same idiotic AI GT games have had since GT1. Looks pretty though :/

here whats the story with the whole "prologue" thing? it seems a bit ridiculous to release a small chunk of the game and sell it €30 or whatever and then follow it with the full game a couple of months later. theyre basically selling a demo.
they should really just have the demo that got released and then have that to tide people over till the proper gt5. It's a bit greedy imo.

not tryin to cause a stir or anything it just seems a bit over the top :p

You don't have to buy it. Those that do will appreciate that 10% of Gran Turismo is still more content than most other racing games. Personally I'm not a huge fan of the Prologue games because collecting cars and personalising your collection is a big part of the fun for me, but it's there if you want it.

As for the demo, I'm really enjoying it. The handling is great, and since there's only one track and a handful of cars I've been taking the time to master pro handling with no driving aids on each one. Everything is pretty much as you'd expect from Gran Turismo, with the 16 competitive cars on track being the real icing on the cake that makes the game a lot more interesting as you battle for position.
