90% Of Houses Do Not Meet Sound Proofing Requirements - Claim

    Hi All,

firstly, not sure where to post this so feel free to move.

I got a flyer in yesterday offering a sound proofing survey for €150 on semi-d houses. The flyer claims that
    • "We carry out inspections on sound insulation to ISO 140-4, 140-7 standards"
    • "Over 90% of homes inspected fail to meet minimum building regulation standards"
    • "If you have a sound issue you more than likely have a fire safety concern"
    • "report can be used to inform builder that repir work is required"
    • "Why pay €1000s in future repair costs when your builder is responsible for ensuring your home meets all building regulations"

just wondering if this is a scam?
if anyone has seen this before and if is worth pursuing.
If this report was carried out and the building regs are not met, will your builder carry out this work; I have been in my house 6 years?
Is this something which could be followed up under homebond?

    cheers
    whitey

First thought is that nearly all pre 91 (bldg. regs) houses would have been exempt in any event and probably make up 80% of the housing stock.

Post 91 housing would be dodgy enough in most instances so all in all their claim could be reasonable accurate but at the same time as far out as the preverbial light house.

Homebond wont be interested as its not a structural element.

Its complete trash. The majority of irish houses are block built. The building reg requirement for sound calls for a set mass per square metre, ALL houses that meet the structural requirement will meet the sound requirement. The only houses that would have an issue would be very early or poorly built timber frame.

The fact that the leaflet you got is quite misleading I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole

    Hello

I don't see the problem with naming them. I presume that they are distributing the flyer to houses via post, email, or dropped through the letter box? I want to question the legitimacy of their facts. Can you provide the info to me personally via an alternate method?

Well when you consider that we have said what they are doing is a load of ****e then you should understand why they won't be named here.

Well I believe that I am in a position to question what they have said, and then assess how wrong they may be. Are they saying 90% in one estate, and therefore one type of construction? You appear to have assumed 90% of all houses. I am asking again, can you pls arrange an alternate method of supplying their name?
