Forum name change

Construction & Self Building & Architecture & Planning. Try saying that after 14 pints.

Myself and smashey have been toying with the idea of changing the forum name for some time mainly because it’s much, much too long. The logic or at least the thinking behind this is that Construction & Self Building are one and the same. If people want to nit pick well fine but no matter what way you look at it Self Building is Construction so those 2 can be rolled together and we can use a single word “Construction”

In relation to Architecture and Planning it is safe to say that architecture or related topics has never been discussed in the forum and in any event there is an Arts & Architecture forum therefore the Architecture part can be dropped completely. Planning more or less speaks for itself but is not necessarily joined at the hip with Planning Permission. It can also include topics such as planning or designing aspects of your house, including the current building regulations, or planning a step by step programme or order of events from looking at ideas for a new build right through to inviting the mods to the house warming party.

In conclusion we intend to give the forum a new and shorter name
“Planning & Construction". We have had a wee bit of feedback and it was suggested that we use the same wording in reverse in order to have them in alphabetical order. Our thinking is that the planning aspects normally precede the actual construction aspect so we hope to keep it as proposed.

We have quite a good database of regular contributors here so if anyone wishes to comment then please feel free to do so.

It does really look odd on the front page after a new thread / post - it really takes a chunk outta all the thread titles in the second column.

I can see merit in that but like a lot of things - "if its not broke, dont fix it"

Why not PM delly or maybe start a thread to that effect in the forum concerned.

I can see where you're going with the A - Z thing Hagar and its a not a bad idea but I think it puts too much emphasis on the building end of things

Its been kicking about now for the last 6 days and everyone seems to be in agreement so I will contact the powers that be request the name change.

i agree with new name change, i see the light now.....!

I thought that it was meant to be " planning & construction", are we to assume that everyone should build it and then apply for retention.

It was.

I PM'd one of the admins requesting the change and I see what he done - he just deleted the "Self Building & Architecture" words from the middle part of the original name but never rearranged the first and last (Planning & Construction.) So all complaints to Vexorg

But someone here has had their wish granted
