Quick Rule question

Quick question for any rule buffs:

Player A gets a 1 match ban he plays for team A

Team A are due to play Team B in the next scheduled game but Team A give a walk over because they can't field a team and the result is 0-3 to Team B as per rules.

Question does this game count as Player's A suspension?

2nd Question if Team B were to give a walk over does it count as Players A suspension?

I know certain local leagues will have their own rules but if no local rule is present does anyone know if Fifa, Uefa or even the FAI or SFAI have a rule on this?

His suspension is for the next match played in said comptetition so he is banned for the next game and not that one :(

Not positive, but I would be amazed if you didn't have to physically serve a ban if the game you were scheduled to miss was given as a walkover. Surely you serve it in the next game played? Then again in the strange and wonderful world of amateur football it is quite possible your ban would be seen as served.

Would that not mean then that they would essentially have to forfeit the rest of the games? Assuming they had the minimum number of players obviously, with one suspension they could never field a team as he could never actually serve the suspension.

But when a walk over is given the game is considered to have been played i.e. there is a result, if it was postponed then obviously doesn't count as you can't count 1 fixture twice but when a walk over is given then a result stands and the game isn't re-scheduled?

that would be a league rule but if you get the 3-0 win its classed as being played but as for a suspension its not.

    god bless football

One rule buff I spoke reckons that if Team A give a walk over it doesn't count but if Team B give the walk over it does count and the suspension has been served?

In the likes of the Leinster senior league for the suspension to be served you'd have to get the card filled out and ref there on the day otherwise if the game is is called off over the phone it technically wasn't played as far as i know

in the meath and district league

If his own team has to cancel the game, he still has to serve the suspension

if the opposite team cancels the game, thats the suspension served

    Hi,

I have astupid question. When kicking off can the ball be kicked forward or must it be kicked back or lateral first?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

The ball HAS to go forward.

I'll get the relevant rule now in a minute.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

    Law 8 :
The Start and Restart of Play

    Procedure
    • all players are in their own half of the field
    • the opponents of the team taking the kick-off are at least 9.15 m (10 yds) from the ball until it is in play
    • the ball is stationary on the centre mark
    • the referee gives a signal
    • the ball is in play when it is kicked and moves forward
    • the kicker does not touch the ball a second time until it has touched another player
    • After a team scores a goal, the kick-off is taken by the other team.

Is that a local league rule or a Fai rule?
