Safari 3 on Tiger (and in general)

    I'm a recent convert to Safari (as in I haven't used Camino in 2 days :p). There's a couple of things bugging me about it though and I'd love if someone here could clear them up.

    1) What happens when Leopard is released? Has anyone heard if Safari 3 will forever be a beta on Tiger, or will the full version be available? Or should I legally not be using it, like Boot Camp?

    2) I love the highlighting when searching, it really beats Camino's attempt. Where it falls short is clicking through to a link once it's highlighted. If I hit enter once I've highlighted a link I want, it skips to the next occurrence of that string on the page, rather than activating the link. In Camino, enter activates the link and Command + G finds the next occurrence. It's driving me mad having to use the mouse to click through! Anyone got any ideas?

    Well the current Bootcamp Assistant will expire when Leopard arrives so I assume the same will happen with the Safari beta. But Safari is a cross-platform browser now and isn't explicitly tied to Leopard (as Bootcamp is) so it the final version should be available to download.

    That's what I was thinking, they can hardly have it running on Windows and not on Tiger. Just hadn't heard anything to confirm it either way.

    Any idea on the key combos? This is what's really driving me mad since the beta's perfectly stable anyway from what I can see

    When I do this in Safari I can use Apple G to iterate through the selections and enter to select the link just like Camino. Or if there are no links, enter will iterate through all the text occurrences.

    Interesting... That won't work for me. Enter and Apple G both do exactly the same thing. This is Safari 3 we're talking about? :confused:

    OK, finally got a work-around for this. It seems I'm not the only one experiencing the issue because I found this hint over at macosxhints.com. Basically create a bookmark to the following link:
    javascript:x=window.getSelection().getRangeAt(0).startContainer.parentNode;if(x.tagName=='A'){window.location=x;}else{window.location=x.parentNode};

    The page said to save it in the bookmarks bar and use the Command-1 shortcut or whatever, but personally I don't like it there. What I did was bury it in the menu and label it 'Follow Link', then used the Keyboard prefpane to make a custom keyboard shortcut (Option-Command-G). Works like a charm :D

    Dunno how much use this'll be to people but it's annoying the HELL out of me for months now ;)
