Travelling onwards from Beijing

    Howdy,

Beijing seems to be a strange place when it comes to flights.
There seems to be no budget airlines flying there.
In fact any flights to/from there seem quite expensive even to closeby destinations.
And travelling from there by land seems out of the question since it's quite isolated from other common travelling destinations.

I can fly there cheap using some airmiles I have accumulated.
Anyone got any experience on getting out of there ?
I'd like to catch Indonesia/Phillipines/Hong Kong (to finish)
Maybe go through North Korea while it's still there, although that seems expensive too even by land (tour company..etc)

    Cheers,
    Ray.

Not sure Harry, but I have looked into travelling to the Olympics next year and I have a flight out of there to Hong Kong with Air China reasonable if I want it.

Once you're in HK, you can get to Beijing pretty reasonably. You need to cross the border on foot/train to Shenzhen, then since that's in mainland china, you can pick up a flight with www.elong.com - we used them a lot when we were over there and got some great deals. Once you complete the online booking, they will call you to comfirm all the details and complete the payment. Very easy.
I also think it's cheaper to book through the site once you're actually in the country ....

Edit: The trains are very good value, clean and comfortable. If you not too short on time, you could consider getting the train up through Shanghai .....

Elong Travel is very good and if you want to go to N Korea for a few days, Koryo Tours are good and are based here in Bejing. You can get fantastic value in flights all around E Asia but you're probably better waiting until you get over here. Worth your while getting a dual entry visa too as I think with Koryo you may have to leave Beijing and come back to Beijing too. I'm just back from Tibet, a destination that will blow your mind so you should definitley consider that! Also, you can go to Mongolia on the Trans-Siberian, takes 16 hours.

    Hi guys,
I'm looking to get a flight from Shanghai to Shenyang around new year's eve. Does anyone know any other good sites for flights other than those mentioned earlier in this thread?

    Thanks for the advice.
    I might indeed consider Tibet.
I was planning on gonig to the lush reefs in Phillipines & Indonesia,
    but might have more time.
Already been to Mongolia, so no need to go there again.
    Also considering catching Japan.
Normally the closer to the date, the more expensive the flight.
Based on this should I not book now, as opposed to waiting until I get there?
I guess the 'fantastic' deals are not available online ?
Are they are good as Europe ?

    Koryo seem v.expensive - 1500EUR for 5 days..

    TIA,
    Ray.
