Devotion returns for our 2nd birthday celebrations! Drop down and help us celebrate 2 years in which Devotion has put the quality back into the Irish hard house scene and provided you with the opportunity to hear some of the finest names in the business. Once again, we welcome back the hard house master and Trade legend Steve Thomas. Joining him this time will be Ken O’ Flanagan. Both DJs played a pivotal part in the development of the hard house scenes in their respective countries and are all set to give us a reminder of how it should be done. The soundtrack will be the Trade and hard house classics that built the scene of today so GET DOWN EVERYBODY!

    2nd Birthday

Another year of quality hard house at Devotion; bringing a bit of funk and groove back into a world of monotonous banging with our musical policy of quality hard house in the broadest sense of the term; be it tuff, funky, chunky, groovy, pumping, dark, uplifting......

Devotion continues to push the boundaries whilst staying true to the original hard house attributes of fun, tuff, funky music. In the past 2 years we've introduced a plethora of talent to Irish audiences and not one of them has failed to impress. Showing a keen ear for quality beyond the obvious, our guests have been carefully selected to ensure they fit in with the sound we aim for at Devotion. We select DJs that can build a set and mix it up, choosing DJs that bring something a little different; aimed at the more discerning listener who can appreciate the music in all its forms.

So get down on 9th November for a night of quality Trade and hard house classics with one of the innovators of the scene from the UK and also one of the men responsible for pushing the sound over here. For our first birthday party we welcome back Trade legend Steve Thomas alongside one of the original Irish hard house DJs, Ken O’ Flanagan. Both men were pivotal to the development of their respective scenes and are sure to provide a showcase of how the music should be played. With Steve Thomas being an integral part of the classic Trade line up, no other DJ is better qualified to take you on a journey through some of its finest moments.

They'll be joined by Devotion regulars James Devlin and Pierce Rooney. After the success of their epic Back2Back set at the recent Tinrib gig, James Devlin and Pierce Rooney will be teaming up once again and digging out the classics that will set the room up for an unforgettable night of party music. Prepare yourselves for a massive celebration and an unrivalled journey through hard house history.

    Steve Thomas

Steve has played at every major Hard House club in the UK as well as numerous events around the world. His UK gigs include Trade, Cream, Sundissential, Vague, BugJam, Ministry of Sound, weekly residency at DTPM and many more. Worldwide, he has been resident for Trade in Ibiza (Privilege, El Divino & Space), a Japanese Tour, a US Tour, and a South African Tour, all alongside regular gigs in Europe. One of Steve’s highlights was a residency alongside Danny Tenaglia at Twilo in NY. This came about via Trade, who’s DJs played in the second room; apart from Steve - he is the only person ever to play a two hour prime time slot in the middle of Tenaglia’s marathon set, not once but every time he played there.

As well as DJing, Steve has released several of his own tracks under guises such as 'The Experts' and 'Fruitloop' as well as under his own name, with all these records ripping up the dance floors at Hard House clubs.

Can there be anything else to say? Yes, Steve has also been voted ‘DJ of the Month’ in Muzik, and has played live on Kiss FM and on Danny Rampling’s shows on Radio 1 and of course the ever famous Essential mix for Pete Tong. He has been voted in DJ magazine’s top 100 DJs four times and in a poll done by Muzik Magazine Steve was voted number 8 in the world.

Steve Thomas is one of the finest DJs that the dance music scene has ever had the opportunity to experience. DEVOTION once again presents to you the opportunity to hear him playing the distinct sound which he pioneered.

    Ken O’Flanagan

One of a few DJs responsible for introducing the purer hard house sound to Ireland, and Dublin in particular, in the late 90's through his radio shows on Club FM and Kiss FM, as well as his numerous residencies at the like of the Ormond, Subterranea and Tin Pan Alley. Ken O’ Flanagan appeared in virtually every hard house club of the time and was responsible for a whole wave of people getting into the hard house sounds of the latter 90's.

His first release was the ‘Hard Noise’ collaboration with his regular DJing partner DJ Orbit, under the pseudonym of 'The Banana Boys'. They went on to produce two more tracks, the hugely successful 'One More' and its flipside, Desire.

Hard house the way it's meant to be!

Another year of Devotion comes to a close. Here we have a small review of the past year. We’ll kick off from the first gig after last year’s birthday party.

    1st Dec ’06 – Dave Owens

What a set from the Munkjack man on his return to Devotion! He had the place absolutely rocking for his entire set and threw down some of the most upfront tunes around as well as some of the most classic NRG tunes you’re likely to hear anywhere. Some of the tracks that smashed the place apart were Rampage, Hot Tamale, Whizz Bang, I Thank You Elvis, Banga Monica…………………… An outstanding set from Dave and a great way to finish of the year.

    19th Jan ’07 - Devotion regulars

The regular Irish DJs that normally set the pace for the bigger names got their chance to shine and what a night it was –great music, great crowd, great atmosphere and a great start to 2007 for Devotion. The place was rocking for the whole night, proving it’s not always about the big names.

    23rd Feb ’07 – Nik Denton & DJ Orbit

DJ Orbit hit Devotion for the 2nd time and proceeded to lay down a savage set of vintage hard house which had the club funking and grooving for its entirety. Once again, he played a perfectly executed set which this time incorporated the entire spectrum of hard house from chunky housey vibes at the start through to tuffer funk-driven monsters and finally finishing up with some classic hard house sounds from the likes of Tidy Trax and Tripoli.

Nik Denton once again gave an exhibition of pumping modern hard house that is the natural progression from the sound DJ Orbit played earlier. It had that gritty edge that most of today’s hard house seems to have but still had the hard house essentials of funk and groove in there. A virtuoso display once again from a DJ that always seems to deliver.

    30th Mar ‘07 – Devotion @ Hedliners, Vaults

Devotion landed in The Vaults once again, this time hosting a room at Hedliners. Also on the bill were Amber D and bounce kings The 12” Thumpers. Devotion room filled quite early and the Devotion DJs proceeded to raise the temperature and rock the Vaults once again! Great sets from all the lads - from Colin Reburn’s chunky warm up set, Pocock's fierce NRG and Pierce Rooney's end of the night set that gave the floor a lift with some well known classics mixed with some up front hard house.

    11th May ’07 - Ben Stevens

After his sensational first appearance the year before, there were huge expectations of Ben Stevens and once again he did not disappoint. Ben laid down a fierce set of pumping hard house that reaffirmed his standing as one of the scene’s finest DJs. Check out the live recording of this night for proof of his exceptional skills.

8th Jun ‘07 – ‘Back to Rootz EP’ Launch Night with Tim Stokes

Brilliant night once again, the music was top class throughout and the atmosphere was amazing, making it one of the best in a while. As expected, Tim blew the place apart with a thumping set. From the moment he started with some funky sounds from Andy Farley you knew this wasn’t going to be one of those DJs that just play an hour and a half of mindless nonsense; boring the dance floor senseless for the most part. He had the place rocking for his entire set and the feedback about him has been great.

17th Aug ’07 Tinrib Digital Launch Tour

What a night! The B2B set from myself and Pierce went as well as we could have hoped for, with the place going absolutely crazy by the end of it, and was a perfect warm-up for the main show which promised to up the intensity and raise the temperature.

Captain Tinrib, dressed in a lovely leprechaun suit, took to the stage for the final hour and proceeded to play a savage selection of forthcoming Tinrib material. His set of hard, upfront music, coupled with his crazy antics, had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand and they lapped up every beat he fired at them. The crowd was going wild and there’s no doubt that this is a man at the top of his game who knows exactly what the dance-floor wants.

    14th Sept – Devotion regulars

The Irish Devotion DJs were back again for another night of pure, quality hard house. For the first time, Pocock finished off the night and he did in blistering style as he assaulted the senses with some of his own productions plus some fierce upfront NRG monsters!

Catch you all at the birthday party and monthly after that as we do it all again!
