1973 MG BGT has to go...

    Hi folks,

The BGT has to go. 3 kids under 4 are not really compatible with a 34 year old classic.

    http://www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=35346

No reasonable offer refused. The body will need work, but she's structurally solid (never welded) and has been professionally serviced during the 3 years I've owned the car. I was planning to spend some money having the body resprayed, but the reality is I just don't use the car as much as I used to, so would be a wasted excercise for me :(

    PM me if interested

Looks like a nice little runner.
Best of luck with it. :)

Any plans for a classic saloon?!

Not yet... can't even entertain that discussion with the wife until the BGT is gone... but wouldn't mind old Merc CE ;)

Lads, if you know anyone interested, price drop to €2500. Must be some takers out there?

Have to say that is a fair price if the car is as described.

Wish I had €1500 to spare. Sounds cheap to me.

Thx macplaxton... actually, I'm based in celbridge - only a stone's throw from where you are (Lucan?)

I'm not too sure if I should be posting here, or in the advert itself - but should a car like this be garaged? I only have street and driveway parking.

garaged is always better - but not essential. I'm sure a large % of classic car owners don't have garages (esp at this end of the market). I know of 3 people within 2 miles of where I live who keep their classic in their driveways.

So, garage is preferred, but not essential... it still rains when people are driving their cars!

    Thanks for that

    Hi Eoin

I'd second what ZV Yoda said - its an advantage to have a garage certainly but not essential.

I've owned 3 BMW 2002s including my current 74 tii and I've never lived in house with a garage. The Tii is in very good rust-free condition, and I polish it at least once every three or four months. I'm planning to waxoyl it this summer. That won't stop small bubbles of rust forming, but you do your best. Car covers are an option, but if you use the car often, they are a pain in the arse to take on and take off, plus they sometimes trap moisture.

You often hear of people selling minters because they 'lost their garage space' for whatever reason and think it will just rust away sitting outside. There is some honesty in this reasoning, but obviously if you loved it enough you wouldn't sell it. In other words they want to get a more modern car and capitalise on the value of the classic if its in anyway good nick, which is fair enough. If you use the car often, that is one the better defences against rust. Obviously if you leave it outside and run it round the block once a month, that's just no good. In fact its cruel. :-)

    Thanks for the reply :)

I think I asked about this before actually, but about a coupe not a soft top (a Ford Mustang has turned into a much longer term plan :(). I heard that car covers can flap a lot in the wind, and cause damage.

If this isn't sold before a new servo goes in, I'll have a look then. Being really honest, I'm not really looking to buy a project, so wouldn't consider it if it's not ready to go.
