Just wondering whats the poker scene in Galway like now, I havent played since race week, is there better tournaments in the 4 aces or the eglinton? I walked past the 4 aces today and there's a bike shop now where part of it was, is it still open?!

Still open, but reduced to only two poker tables as far as I can see - guess they finally admitted to themselves that hopes to run weekly tournaments of more than 20 players wasn't panning out? Every tournament I played there (a few last year and then again in August this year) had between 12 and 25 players.

The Eglinton gets bigger fields for some of its events - the bi-weekly €10 rebuy gets between 5-8 tables I think and there were 58 runners in the weekly €100+15 game last night. Might have had more in the end, I was the 2nd knocked out (it was beautiful) and more probably came in later. The only other time I played it had similar numbers.

In my opinion the Eglinton has a much better selection of tournaments than the 4 Aces, though the weekend cash games are probably softer in the 4 Aces. Is Galway big enough for two card clubs running nightly tournaments? Not sure about that, I can't get over reading about small towns I've never even driven through with two or three clubs! Anyone else remember the Mayfair in Dublin dying a death competing against the Fitz and the Merrion, and that was in a city of more than 1 million!

cheers for that, I didnt think there'd be a call for two clubs either. it would probably be better for players if there was one good club instead of two mediocre ones. many in the eglinton on thursday nights?
