Fretless Precision Bass Project

I've been working on my SX (is it still one?) Precision for a bit and rebuilding it. I bought a Mighty Mite Ebanol boarded fretless Precision neck off Ebay. Cheap and very nice!
I installed it for a day or two to check out the sound and it sounded awesome. Absolutely tonnes of mwah!!

I was trying to think about how to go about fixing it up. Rather than just putting the ebanol fretless neck onto it I wanted to give it a new look. I thought about fitting a chrome pickup cover on it but no bridge cover. I tested it out by placing it on the body but was in two minds about it. I decided it was a no go.

Thankfully I remembered that I had an EMG P pickup and black parts lying around from another project. I'll buy some more stuff for that one soon.

So I got some work done on it this last night and I'm pretty happy so far. I sprayed the headstock black, its not perfect but it looks ok.

Here's a photo of it currently. I'm going to wire up the EMG at the weekend (or before) and set it up. I'll take some final photos at the weekend. Its not really that yellow, the lights in my house make it look weird.

I'll try to upload the pics and any clips (with intonation way off of course) at the weekend.

    :)

Sweet. I thought you were going to do a Jaco for a minute though :D

I'd be interested to see how this turns out. It'll look shmexy when you get some strings on there, though I'd question the sound and reliability of SX basses in general. Still, better do it with a lower quality bass just in case :p

The main reason I'm doing it with this bass is because I like it so much and I wanted to find another use for it. I have 2 other 4 string fretted basses. 3 would be a bit useless to me.

I think the only thing SX's are lacking in is the pots and wiring. Everything else is fine. The pickups are pretty good quality, actually I even sold mine and made some money off it! :)
