Does anyone know if it's possible to get a classic Volkswagen Beetle with power steering, either as original spec or a modification?
I don't know much about Beetles (probably obvious!) and I'd like to own one but the lack of power steering would be a problem. :o
    Thanks.. :)

Have you tried driving one? I can't imagine the steering as being that heavy - the tyres are narrower, and most of the weight is at the back.

Well they were never available from new with PAS and as Anan1 says they dont need it. The steering is very high geared and the wheel is huge, you could easily twirl it with your finger !

i agree. Very pleasant to drive overall so don't let the lack of mod-cons put you off.

If you really want PAS, you could always butcher it and fit electric power steering out of a Corsa, like the rally boys do. Most of them kits are designed for ford steering columns.

Having driven a few beetles, there is no need for PAS, it's fine once there's no wear in the linkages.

As long as it has the original steering wheel and correct (155) tyres you'll be fine.

    Take a look at www.eircooled.com

Yeah, as long as there aren't huge fat tyres on her she'll be a pleasure to drive!
