John, is this going to be the new name for Ring of Truth? Or are you going to have a combined "Of Truth" brand - catering for both rings and cages?

29a. Get off at the last stop and walk down the Hole in the Wall Road (best road name ever). The Centre is on your right hand side about 200m down, can't miss it, big carpark outside.

That hurt Roper, that hurt... :(

I'll be there anyways. I guess I'll have to leave the Bugatti at home this time and take the Punto in case I draw too much attention crossing the Liffey?

tickets available now from Mullen sports

due to Adrian breaking his hand the new main event will be

Gunnar 'The Highlight Kid' Nelson (Iceland) v Niek Tromp (Holland)

as you can see from Niek's record he is mostly a submission fighter so i think this match up is going to be very interesting considering the jiu jitsu clinics that the highlight kid has put on in his last 2 fights.

also added to the fight card

Steve McCoombe (UFR) v Yusef (KO Martial Arts)

Steve is the BIGGEST 61.2kg fighter i've ever seen and has a lot of experience with a 5-4-1 record. Yusef from Poland but now fighting out of Roper's KO gym will be making his 'irish' debut but had a number of semi pro fights back home.

and in a 'junior amateur rules fight' we have

Pat Boylan (SBG) v Darragh Kirwan (PBS)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 128 ✭✭UFR Management

Steve 'Taz' McCombe is 4-2-0,think they got his record confused with a fighter by the same name who fights out of emmet mc nallys sudden impact club.

Great stuff. I've heard of a few more fights through the grapevine and its all good!

Really looking forward to seeing Young Patrick fighting, I'm not going to sit beside pat Senior though because I'd say he'll be shouting the roof down! I believe Darragh from Galway has some great skills too so this will be great.

Good question. I hope Ring of Truth doesn't go by the wayside to make room for Cage of Truth.

well when we hold events in a ring they'll be called Ring of Truth and when we hold them in a cage they'll be called...er...Cage of Truth :)

John this might come as a total surprise to you but we figured that out. We were wondering if you were disbanding ROT to do COT.

I think if you get a vid of your fight Mick we could easily use it for the next "why are the events held in a cage" debate.

Can anybody give an indication of the travel time it takes on the bus from the city centre?

    Cheers,

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,923 ✭✭✭Nothingcompares

buses are regular and shouldn't take much more than 30 minutes from city centre. i'd guess 25mins depending on which stop you get on in the city centre, apparently it winds its way from eden quay to abbey street.

Keith Duffy SBG Northside def Henry Hughes
    Guillotine, .58 sec 1st round

Keith came out throwing bombs and looked like overwhelming Henry with strike s until he swallowed him up into a standing Guillotine.

Garry Bergin SBG Northside def Kunall Scharmer
    Armbar, .30 sec 1st round

Garry knocked Kunall down with a thunderous punch and immediately followed up with top control and swiftly moved to a arm bar submission. (not sure if this was 30secs long or 1.30)

Anne Maine SBG def Willemijn Van Zon
    Ref stoppage, 3.49 1st round

Very competitive fight. Striking, clinch and ground fighting here, both girls looked like real MMA competitors not recent cross-overs like a lot of girls doing mma look. I think Anne chased the takedown as Willemijn did well to keep it in the clinch but eventually Anne got a sweep and started dropping fists down on the Belgian to win.

Joe Cunnane (NG) def Tadias from Lithuania
    Doctors stoppage, 1.50 1st round

I remember Joe from the Fila grappling trials in SBG NS and he really impressed me with his grappling ability so I was expecting him to submit the blond. NOt sure why this fight ended I think TAdias injured his arm.

TJ Davitt (SBG NS) def Jonny Kerins (KOMA)
Rear naked choke, 1.48 1st round

Tj came out with some big punches and the guys went quickly into a clinch, Jonny had underhooks and looked to toss TJ on the ground but I think TJ kinda reversed it and landed in mount! TJ started punching until Jonny exposed his back to get the choke.

    Keith Norton def Adam Slavinski
    DQ, 2.01 1st round

Adam went for a heel hook which is forbidden and was DQ. Unfortunate for Keith because he was really up for this one. Hope his leg heals (no pun intended).

Steve Mc Coombe (UFR) def Husen Muhamed (KOMA)
    Submission, 3.30 2nd round

Really really great fight. Steve Mc Coombe is probably Ireland's version of Sean Sherk and Husen probably our version of Anderson Silva. Husen came out with some amazing high kicks and punches and Steve, all credit to him, just seemed to shrug them off. Husen was actually caught as he attempted a big high kick and was taken down into side control in which Steve used his trademark "telephone arm bar" which I'm told is you bend the guys arm and trap it between your legs to get the submission. Fight of the night.

Dave Kelly (SBG NS) def Ciaran Gillen
    TKO, 1.27 1st round

For such a friendly nice guy, Dave Kelly is a scary guy to face in the ring, and I'm saying that sitting in the crowd. Dave dropped Ciaran with a big punch and it was pretty much over.

Ais Daly (SBG) def Nadia Van Der Wel
    TKO, 2.39 2nd round

Really good fight. Nadia obviously worked a game plan of trying to hold Ais in the clinch and try and wear her down from there. Ais took a couple of big punches and gave a few herself. She couldn't really get the takedown she was looking for in the first round, settling for footstomps and knees instead. In the second round she got her takedown and worked her GnP aggressively to win.

Richie Moore (SBG NS) Vs Colin Laird (Kyujin MMA (sorry for spelling!)
    Draw, full distance

As we all expected this was a close, highly contested bout. Richie looked to have the edge in striking and forced Colin to go for takedowns. Some Richie stuffed and looked to threaten with a guillotine but other times COlin got a big double to take Richie down. I don't think Colin looked to submit Richie but had superior position for most of the first round. The second round was more Richie's way, and Richie looked like finishing with his GNP. The final round was 50-50 so it was a fair draw. I'd say Colin may have been on top for longer but Richie came closing to beating him.

Gunnar Nelson (SBG) def Niek Tromp
Tap Out due to strikes, 1.50 1st round

Gunnar went in and took Niek down passed to mount and started dropping some very accurate and nasty punches to the jaw of Niek. I think Niek might have hurt his jaw and had to tap.
