Ford Fiesta 97 ghia audio swap

I want to change the audio deck on my ford fiesta ghia 97. It's my first car and don't have much experience, but I'd like to add a diferent audio deck to it to replace the old one.

I know these things are fairly straight forward usually, but if anyone is familiar with the ghia, to my eyes it looks like it's non-standard and therefore might not accept a replacement audio deck.

I'm not getting much saticfaction from google as I'm probably not asking the right questions

Has anyone done this or know what the story is? I need more than a tape deck for the love of God! :D

    Thanks

    Hi

First off you'll need a wiring harness like this

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ISO-Wiring-Harness-for-Ford-Fiesta-Mondeo-Orion-Mazda_W0QQitemZ130162999311QQihZ003QQcategoryZ14932QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem

This will convert your ford audio leads to ISO which are compatible with most off the shelf radios

Now you need a facia or you'll have a big gap in your dash(depending on your model) and getting the facia gives it the factory finish

    See below

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Ford-Escort-Puma-Fiesta-Facia-ISO-Harness-Lead-RRP-25_W0QQitemZ110179229662QQihZ001QQcategoryZ108815QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem

Most car shops do the above but ebay is the chepest route IMO. Just make sure the ISO leads are compatible with your year of model when buying.

    Simple as that

You may also need a shelf for the radio mine came with one as do many others

It can be done alright I got it done in a 99 fiesta I used to have a few years back. As the ford radio is non standard you need to buy a facia panel(about 15 euro) to cover up the space left when the ford radio is removed this will have a space in it to fit a standard head unit. You also need to get a ford audio adaptor(not sure if this is the correct name) to connect the new radio to the car only costs a few euro. I didnt actually do the fitting myself as I had free fitting from argos and removing the ford radio wont be easy without correct tools.

Ford removal keys going cheap on ebay you can get a set for every radio on then market for 15 quid. Think you'd pick up ford keys for 2 quid.

That would do the trick alright. I didnt look too hard at the time as I had the free fitting.

You have two options OP. You can get a used Ford 6000rds unit on Ebay (CD player), for about £50-60 sterling + postage, and its a straight swap. If you go for this ensure that a code is supplied, although codes are readily available for them.

The other option as already mentioned is a standard sized head-unit, a fascia adapter, and a ford-to-ISO wiring adapter.

The ford head units of this era are easily removed with home made removal prongs - you can make these from a wire coat-hanger - all you need is a good strong electricians pliers.
