Custom Guitar Case

Can someone please recommend somewhere that either supplies hard cases (preferably a flightcase) for irregular shaped guitars, or perhaps where i could get a case customised? The guitar in question is a Rickenbacker 481 (basically the Rickenbacker bass guitar shape on a smaller scale). Unfortunately the original case went missing whilst in the possession of its previous owner.:(

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

I bought a Peavey Grind 6 String bass. The neck was really wide so no hard case i could find would fit it. I emailed Peavey and they gave me the case model number and there are tons of shops on the web that will do it.

in other words, contact the maker and ask them? I am sure they can send you in the right direction. ;-)

I know someone who got a case made by this company for an unusual shaped bass. The case weighed a tonne and got punctured during a flight. It was supposed to be a flight case that would withstand a flight. Had the recessed latches and everything.

My Ran has a custom case made by these guys http://www.kisielewski.com.pl/

Thing is built like a tank, just like the guitar it's protecting :p

Ive already tried the Official Rickenbacker Forums without success. This particular model has not been manufactured since 1983, and the newer cases are built to fit only the newer models in production. Others have asked the same question over a year ago and still no reply, so it seems like a waste of time. They also have a waiting list of over a year for their guitars, so i doubt they would have the time to start making cases for vintage gear. might just email tham anyway - no harm asking!;)

That is a bit discouraging to hear about a flight case getting badly damaged - kind of defeats the point of it. Were the contents damaged?

Feyla: Thanks for the link, but Im afraid my Polish isnt exactly the best and I didnt see an option for english on the link? Or did i miss something?

Thankfully the contents weren't damaged. Have you thought about buying a bass case? It is a guitar you have right????

Get a hardshell bass case or similar. You could even add foam to the interior if you needed to stop it moving.

Maybe even a shortscale bass case??

Thomannn and Musicstore do large square flight cases. You can get the foam and cut out the shape of your guitar and it will fit snug.

You can adjust the foam in the inside. I will agree with Joe Robot, DFCC cases can be heavey, but 1st I've heard about one getting busted!

I was surprised too unclebill! The thing looked like a tank, he showed it to me when he got it.

+1000 on the suggestion of getting the empty case and cutting the foam! :) Thats what I was trying to get across in my last post but didn't say it right. ;)

    Oh its definitely a guitar!!!!!:D

But it is styled in the traditional Rickenbacker Bass shape. I have attached a pic so you can see why it is difficult to find a suitable case. (unfortunately a previous owner didnt take very good care of it, so there are a few minor bits of damage that need repair).

I was looking at Musicstore already earlier today and that is the same case I was looking at, so I think it may be the best option - with a bit of foam sliced here and there. (I have ordered from Thomann before and they were less than satisfactory so i would prefer to avoid a repeat performance).

Unfortunately, im still waiting for this guitar to arrive, so i cant really order anything until I measure it and make sure it will fit! Was hoping to have it for the weekend, but unfortunately the delivery is taking longer than expected! :(
