Hey guys, so I just wanted to let you all know RCSI has finally started their archery club! I'm just waiting on equipment to come in and we should be shooting in a week or so! So hopefully you'll see us at intervarsities! Thanks to everyone who gave me advice on setting up the club etc! It was GREATLY appreciated!!

one more question: what should i do about arrows seeing as everyone has a different arrow length? so i just go with a random bunch of varying lengths?

    Cheers,
    Reinold

28" arrows are fine for majority of people, but also get something like 30" and 33" arrows for taller and even taller people. Just remember that you can almost always cut them shorter if needed.

    Welcome to the party! :p

For absolute beginners, we usually get these. All the nocks are replacable and if they get smashed you're not losing too much. Don't get me wrong, they are crap BUT, they work!

Altservices linking doesn't work, due to their retarded session code.

I'm going to guess Panser was referring to " Alternative Leisure Carbon arrows (doz ready-built)", which can be found under "Arrows" --> "Ready Built".

I would also recommend these, as they are a lot more durable than the cheaper aluminium arrows like the jazz.. however, if you notice any signs of cracking or damage on a given arrow (like if you shot it into a wall, of they're a few years old), throw it away, as the failure mode for carbons is quite dangerous.. carbon splinters etc.

    Had those and had Jazz.

From experience aluminium arrows work better for big groups. Begginers plough arrows into a wall and then just pick them up without looking, even if the carbon has splintered obviously. Jazz just bend and don't tend to try and hurt you when they break. With carbons you spend half your time running around checking the arrows.

Actually, now that Wolf mentions it, for a new club I really recommend some good nets! Expensive but they save so much hassle in the longrun in terms of arrow smashing! :D

    Yup, thats them!

The above recommendation assumes you have adequate nets...

Otherwise all bets are off :)

Even watching n00bs hitting the wall and the arrows all but ricocheting back to + - 5m before the shooting line...I wouldn't like to see what happens when I hit the wall, never mind the compound guys.

    GET NETS!!

from experience compounds with semi decent arrows will punch a nice hole and be there for you to pull out.

i make no claims for the shootablilty of the arrows after that.....usually crap or fine with shattered nocks or dented piles. it varies alot as far as my arrows go

anything below a decent arrow and you get a nice new coat hanger shaped thing or a nice pile of carbon shards for the other kind

moral of the story; dont miss.....and get nets :)
