XGA at 256 colours means you need 1MB of Video Memory on the video card.

The minimum amount of RAM ?
16MB because a 486 running windows 3.1 could play videos slowly back in the days

The real question you wanted to ask is "I'm running windows/whatever and am using realpain/media player/vlc to play videos"

or you could say "I've got a PC with X MB of ram is this enough ?"
