Autobahn/Naked Green Man

Anyone remember this? Anytime RTE's schedule went a bit haywire and they had to fill in 15 minutes before the next program, they'd wheel this out. Thing was, their schedule was always going haywire so this weird green man with the trippy special effects was permanently on the box. Or perhaps the staff in RTE were smoking strong stuff and just wanted an excuse to look at it again. The music, I learned years later, was Autobahn by Kraftwerk.

Shocking bad video for an edited version of a brilliant, nay groundbreaking track. I also remeber it being used as filler, the Butterfly Ball by Roger Glover was another one in that role.

    Mike.

ps that version is deffo a bit speeded up!

Yeah, this has come up quite a few times on All Things Retro and it never fails to interest me. Those weird cartoons on RTE were FREAKY! Actually there's another thread on similar cartoons somewhere else round here. Halas and Batchelor was the studio responsible for a lot of them - both Autobahn and The Butterfly Ball, as well as others.
I really thought there was a bunch of those alien guys in the cartoon - all different colours. That's how my brother remembers it too, but obviously there was just the green guy. There is a part all right when he is replicated a few times very briefly.

Does anyone remember an extremely cheap animation short featuring a guy getting up in the morning, seemingly to go to work, but he actually gets into a rocket parked in his garden and heads off to space for a while. Then he comes back to earth but it turns out to be a dream. RTE always showed that one too.

Well, you know back in the 70s and 80s there wasn't the same fuss there is now over what they put into food and sweets. Somebody reminded me recently about sweets covered in silver stuff that we ate as kids  That can't have been good for anyone. And the gripe water had alcohol in it. We were probably trippin' on halucinogenics only we didn't know it.
