find cheapest flight to Singapore/Bangkok which is easily done then while there use Air Asia to fly between the two(€20) the most important thing is to be in Singapore for the next leg of your trip which will be on Tiger Airlines Singapore to Darwin(€100 then use Virgin Blue for Darwin to Sydney or buy a cheap van/car and drive it

I've used Australianholidays.ie before. Give them a buzz though as well as try the website.
I know your budget is tight but if you get a choice try to stop off in Frankfurt rather than Heathrow. If Frankfurt comes out a few quid more it's worth it (to me anyway, I really don't like Heathrow).

    OR:

    Dublin-Dubai (Aer Lingus)
    Dubai-Bangkok/Sydney (Emirates)

    Bangkok-Sydney as suggested above

(Otherwise you could fly Dublin-Sydney non-stop with just the one stopover at Dubai to switch from Aer Lingus to Emirates airplanes. That cuts out UK/Germany plus Asia stopovers entirely and should be up there as one of the fastest and cheapest options. Aer Lingus will check your bags through the whole way to Sydney)

    Also try:
www.clubtravel.ie or www.go4less.ie (if you are a student)

    Have you looked at Etihad?
Last week I booked Dublin -> Abu Dhabi –> Singapore -> Brisbane and return from Sydney -> Abu Dhabi -> Dublin for Euro 1,100. As I am travelling in just 4 weeks I think that’s a great price.

Definitely shop around. We went to New Zealand last year, stopped off in the Cook Islands on the way back, and were fairly specific about the dates we needed to travel. Tried Thomas Cook, Trailfinders, and a few other places.

Ended up going with Trailfinders, price was about 300 quid cheaper each than the first place, and the flight times were much better.

Though we were going the LA way, can probably get it much cheaper going your way.

We did too, ending up with TF. The LA way to NZ is good, just two long flight legs, 5 hour layover. Not sure about Oz but I think Air NZ do a LA/Sydney leg, we did Virgin/Air NZ. Looked at the other ways, with TF and others and TF via LA was the best deal. OTOH the deal for €1,100 above sounds almost too good to be true, go for it!!.

    Bye, Barry

I had a good look last year and http://www.usit.ie came out the best online for us, Shannon-perth. In the end, due to issues with stopovers i booked it though a travel agent, and worked out cheaper !

Turkish airlines are a good option as far as Bangkok. Excellent website allows a lot of flexibility in booking. www.thy.com

Use ebookers.ie to find the cheapest flights from all that they search. Then go to the cheapest flyer's website and book it there, cut out the middle man. Saves €10-€20

Cheers for the replies and advice lads, in the end I went for:

    First leg from www.go4less.ie

Aer Lingus Dublin to Dubai, Emerites Dubai to Bangkok - €435 plus €35 tax.

    Then from www.valuair.com

Jetstar Bangkok to Melbourne, Melbourne to Sydney - €525 incl tax.

    Total including taxes: €995.

Flying in just 8 weeks (December 11th and then leaving Thailand for Oz January 3rd) so I think thats pretty good...

    thanks again

Pleased to hear my Aer Lingus/Emirates suggestion through go4less.ie (Club Travel) worked out :)

Anyone know any good websites for the above? Doesn't seem to be much out there that offer deals, apart from trailfinders who I want to avoid if possible.

    Cheers.
