Grip Question

When you grip the club does your left thumb go straight down the grip? I noticed tonight at the range that mine goes off to the side. I got it into my head that this could be causing me to lose consistency and direction on irons. Am i worrying about nothing or is this something to work on.

my left thumb is like this... / ... at the moment.

Can anyone put my mind at ease??

You're operating at a vastly superior standard to me, Graeme, but for what it's worth and from what I understand, I think your grip is correct. Thumb slightly to the side, running under the palm of your right hand.

Hey graeme when you look down or your grip your left thumb should be just right of center not straight down the middle.
And try to grip the club in your fingers and not in you palms.

    Give it a try.

When I line up with my driver, I tend to automatically have the thumb down the center, but I change it once I've set up my stance. Must be an old habit or something. I tried it a few times last week with the thumb straight down, was hitting about 250yds, so it didn't affect the distance at all.

I normally have my thumb going straight down the shaft directly underneath the thumb on my right hand. Hard to say without having a club in my hand, but tell you what....I'll have a look at it when I play Craddockstown at 12 noon later today :D

    (Sorry, couldn't resist)

Sorry Whip It, only mixing it. Had 4 birdies in Craddockstown yesterday - 3rd, 7th, 13th, and 14th. Only finished with 38 points though. Course was in lovely nick, although the greens were pretty slow.

After all of that I still can't remember where I place my thumbs on the shaft!!

The 13th is the short par four with water in front of the green, right? Lovely little hole. Iron off the tee...

Third is a good hole to birdie, tricky green to putt on... Can't think of the other two holes though... Oh, wait - the 14th is a par5 with water snaking through it about four times?? Great birdie right there...

    Big fan of Craddockstown...
