...compared to the Village on the 17th, well, the bands speak for themselves really...

    Codes
    Pete Pamf
    New Amusement
    Grand Pocket Orchestra
    Japanese Toys

    :p

And on a more serious note... ENTS go in on this, but there's an actual Trinity gig on the same night and there's not even a mention in the SU email? Good job those chaps.

True true, I wouldn't mind if he had of tried though. Just trying to do whatever possible to raise the profile of a big event organised by a small society, y'know.

    Did you read your email?
Wednesday: Ents and Comedy Soc. present Comedian David O'Doherty, Ed Burke 7.30pm, followed by Beta Bar @ Radio City featuring Albino Rhino & Corsairs.

Very good work there i think:p

Frankie: out of line - both myself and pugwash, despite having gigs on the same night, refrained from posting on your thread. You've got a thread, I don't necessarily like advertising but i'm allowing it for the first while to allow freshers etc. to get used to college and enjoy nights out, but after a while i'm gonna clamp down.

and as for small society, i'm the treasurer of the gig prior to beta bar - and we rank as most improved society this year tbh ;)

Yeah, but you guys don't get to play the "small society" card any more, remember? 712!

I'd define a gig largely promoted and run by a few TCD students and backed by the TCD SU as being an "actual Trinity gig". Does the fact that they're doing it off their own bat and not under the name of any particular society make them any less students of this college?

    Giggity Giggity...

So wait, you're going to clamp down on the advertising of TCD events in the TCD section of boards?

I conceed it may have been out of line to post in this thread.

I wouldn't compare an event run exclusively by a TCD society and one run by a private concern where the SU have tagged on their backing. Who gets the profits etc? If you were to look at it like that, the majority of club nights in the city could probably claim to be TCD events.
Do people know how these club nights work, I mean, Betabar were approaching societies etc for endorsements ages ago, it just begs the question who they know in the SU.

Speaking of who they know in the SU, it's very easy to do things as a society when you're well in with the Ents officer.

You guys should have advertised your gigs, surely that's one of the functions of this board, so TCD students know what TCD events are going on? Am I way off the mark here?

There's a difference between spamming a board with ads for an event, and being assholeish about events (which I will DEFINITELY not allow) which I have little interest in allowing, and contributing and encouraging people to go to events, and be involved in societies.

As for the point about tcd society vs. private concern, the line does become blurred when a night (such as BetaBar) is run entirely by trinity students.

Oh, I love it when you get all authoritative...

Frankie, we could always pass this up to Vexorg, the admin with over all responsibility for matters of this nature. Two things would happen at that stage, 1) advertising of any paid events/service would be banned, 2) the admins and various Smods would start taking a closer look at thread on this forum. Now if you think you're going to get a fairer deal off the admins then crash, you're sadly mistaken.

Basically crash there turned a blind eye to your event, and now thats left the wrong impression that you have some sort of right to post about events on this forum, you don't.

Ah I see... I kinda thought that TCD events would be allowed in the TCD forum, if that's not the case then, well... I guess that's unfortunate.

Hang on... it just dawned on me that there's a gigs and events forum AND a "pimp my band" forum, so um, I take it this isn't an overall rule, or am I wrong?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,163 ✭✭✭✭Boston

Well, genius, if you can find the events forum and the pimp my band forum why don't you plug your events there. Your'e allowed to plug your events here by the grace of crash and apex, they could equally turn around and tell you to feic off, that too would be consistent with a lot of forums.

you can say that about any topic/post boston. what's your point? quit the armchair moderating and leave it to the actual people in charge.

TCD events are perfectly allowed in the TCD forum, subject to our rules.

1)We do not like when people sign up just to pimp events.
2)We do not like when societies get abusive or derogatory towards other events that have been advertised.
3)We do not want this board just becoming a bulletin board for society events.

You'll notice that we've allowed events threads under all those, however number 2 you've already broken (and i'm sorry, anything run by TCD students where the proceeds in the past have gone towards TVOF can damn well be considered a TCD event).

To be honest Frankie, your posts have mostly been few and far between on this forum previously, up until now, when they've been regular and generally highly argumentative - and generally when I want the opinion of DURNS members or the committee on an issue I would much rather talk to Marsie than yourself, seeing as 1)you're not on the committee, 2)you've been generally derogatory, angry and highly self involved, refusing to acknowledge that occasionally, when running an event, you MAY POSSIBLY be in competition for that night, and may have to act in a responsible manner as such and not piss off people who may want to run events in conjunction with DURNS, and 3)not in the college anymore.

Feel perfectly free to advertise under the music forum under their rules - however on this forum you'll have to work under the rules of this forum, which are quite liberal and if you wish to cry censorship, you'll have a hard time seeing as not a single word you've uttered has been touched.

    Have a nice day.

Just read crash's last post, and was trying to figure out who you were. Was just about to see, but a quick look back at a couple of posts and it all clicked into place.

shows how little i use/look at boards really

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,225 ✭✭✭mar-z

oh and one thing that may be an unpopular thing at the moment, but frankie was heavily involved in organising the night and knew as much about it as anyone, so i'm perfectly happy with him posting about our events.

That said posting about it here wasn't a great move, even if you take out the pissing people off side of things, it basically made both this thread and our events thread turn completely off topic and descend into moaning and b**chiness.

Does Frankie even go to trinity?
