SPDIF Stereo Acting Strange...

Finally got SPDIF (optical) out working for 5.1 and the likes from my F-I90HD board. Using FFDShow and AC3 Filter as codecs for now.

However, when watching stuff in stereo, the "background track" (e.g. music / applause of an audience, etc.) appears to completely overwhelm the main dialogue! Anyone have any ideas on where to start troubleshooting this?

I recall a similar issue at home when I have, say, a DVD playing through the 5.1 speakers, but also the TV itself is outputting through ITS speakers, but I've checked and there's nothing similar happenening here...

    Thanks!

usually the ffdshow icon appears in the taskbar when its being used

right clicking on the icon should let you get into the settings, click ffdshow audio filter, there are mixer settings there

you should also find a link to configure the filter in your program list, under the name of your codec pack maybe

edit: just saw you're talking about optical output... maybe it not possible to do it over optical

if its stereo then there is only l/r audio.
    there is no "background" track.

check the levels on your amp

What I meant by "background track" was from an individual show point of view (please see original post). However, you might have a point in so far as that I should check out if there's anything set on the amp such as "ENHANCE!" or something equally stupid that might be screwing things up.

On another note, I've also uninstalled FFDShow and replaced it with COREAVC, which has solved my 1080p woes nicely. 768MB PC5400 DDR2 RAM, 256MB Video RAM for onboard video, E4400 and 1080p works. There's a lot of misinformation out there (other forums, etc.) that you need a ninja machine to run high quality video. Tweaking is very much worth a shot! :)
