I can't watch video clips via the itv.com website? why is this? it is telling me I must be from the UK?

how would one circumvent this? legally, of course.

Legally you can't (i.e it's illegal for you to watch the clips), but say if you were connected to a UK proxy and happened to connect to itv.com then you'd be able to view videos.

On the BBC website the reason you cant watch from outside the UK is because of the TV Licence (not fair to those who pay it yada yada yada) but I'm not sure if this is the case for ITV too.

I hate when you find a clip you want to watch only to be told you can't watch it because you are in the wrong country!!

its nothing to do with the license (as theoretically somebody may have the internet but no TV...)

Its to do with rights issues. They, basically, only have the rights to broadcast the programmes in the UK. Similar to RTE only streaming certain things worldwide...

The Channel 4 4oD online video service allows people from the Republic to freely access their content. So I don't see why ITV can't do the same.

It is the same story on Sky where Channel 4 is on the EPG in Ireland but the ITV channels aren't. In fact ITV 3 and ITV 4 were on the Sky EPG for a while before being pulled at ITV's request.

Presumably there's a difference between paid programming and free streaming?

Perhaps ITV don't want to pay the bandwidth costs. Just because Channel 4 offer a service to us does not mean that ITV have to.
