Summoned as a witness for the prosecution

My car was broken into several months ago and the person was caught. I've just recieved a summons to appear as a witness. I never saw the brake in and the first I knew was when the Gardai where knocking my door down to let me know, I was asleep. I spoke to the Garda prosecuting and he said all I have to say is that no-one was allowed access to the car and it was damaged. He also said he'd speak to me on the day.

I've never been to court before and have no idea about how this will work. Does anyone know the procedure that I will have to go through and what ID, if any I'd need to bring? Are my details kept from the defendant? It's the children's court if it makes any difference.

    Thanks for any info.

    Edit,
Found this link, not too happy if the little person gets my name and address. But any other info would be helpfull

What time am I supposed to get to the court? The time on my summons or at a different time. I know if it's the time on the summons to arrive a bit early but how early?

Five minutes early is plenty. The childrens court takes one child at a time and so moves very slowly. There will only be about 10 people in a small room. All that will happen is that you will be called to give evidence. You will be asked to swear or affirm that you will tell the truth. You will be asked a few questions by the prosecuting guard to establish who you are, that you are/were the owner of car reg no xxx, that you had given no authorisation for the activities which occurred in relation to your car. The other side may also question you after the guard is finished. Often enough there will be a guilty plea before the whole thing starts and you will not have to do anything.

As the children's court is in camera your details won't be released.

My case was the one you linked. I was never asked to go to court so I can't offer advice I am afraid.

Thanks for the replies. Didn't want to turn up at the time and find out the little person got away with breaking into my car as I was too late for the case.
