Hey I did spiderweb guard with John in Shveden and I've been putting it to use since! Great stuff, make this if you can folks.

Colm - how far is your gym from the Train station (Heuston)? Does the Luas go to it?

Also, what's spider web? I know Eddie Bravo has a side control called Spider Web.. If it's an unpassable guard - then this isn't it? Is it a spider guard variation?

You can definitely get the luas to the Square, but I have no idea how you'd get to their place from there sorry. I pretty much just walk to college and back.

nothing to do with eddie's techniques...and nothing to do with gi dependant spider guard.

an actual spider web works by makin the fly use all of its energy trying to escape. of course the fly's efforts are futile, the more it tries to escape the worse the situation becomes. when the fly is completely exhausted, thats when the spider attacks

spider web guard is collection of techniques (and a strategy) designed to tire your opponent out as they attempt to pass your guard. its something i've worked on for past couple of years really but have only put into a logical teaching sequence with the I-Method in the past 6 mths

by focusing on simple guard retention/reposing techniques to most common style of guard passing the spider web guard helps u to wear out your opponent so the more aggressive 'pentagon' guard can set up your attacks.

Sounds effective! Good theory behind it as well. I'd say Anderson Silva will wanna piece of that guard!:D

The LUAS will drop you about 25 minutes away from the gym, a 77 bus from the city centre will drop you about 3/4 minutes away.

    Thanks for the explanation John!

Thats some Kenpo sheet right there!

Unfortunately the weekend I come home is the one before this! I will however see if I can come back over again for this.

Kav's stuff is always worth checking out, training and drilling for years. I mean my Jitz game from today is pretty much the same stuff he showed me in the first 3 months of training. Sad I know. But there you go.

    Peace
