After some research/FAQ reading/etc, and with a view to just plinking, I'm thinking that a TM VSR-10 G-Spec will fill my wants... for now. I began looking for what deals were on offer and found that UNCompany are offering this package.

    Package includes:
    -Regular G-Spec package plus
-King Arms Spring Eject Bipod (KA-BP-01) X 1
    -King Arms Mount Rings (KA-SM-15) X 1
    -Tasco 3-9X40 Scope X 1
    -Marui VSR-10 30rds Magazine X 1
    -Taiwan BB Loader

    Priced at US$275.

Does the build quality of the extra parts measure up to that of the G-Spec itself?

The shipping works out at €48. Package comes to ~€193. Am I right in thinking that the VAT charges (if/when applied) are 21% of the value of the package? Are there any other charges I might be missing?

€242 (inc shipping, minus VAT/Duty charges) - good deal?

Actually that's not a bad deal at all, the build quality on the KA and Tasco parts will be fine and you're bang on about the VAT. Maybe check with one of the Irish retailers to see if they can do you up a package for a similar price though.

vat is 21% yes, but add on duty and handling charges too, generally i guesstimate it at 25% of total package cost (including shipping)

other than that, it looks like a decent deal, never used King Arms bipods before, but they seem to be decent, tasco scopes are decent (the one listed there probably isnt illuminated though)

Well if you buy off uncompany and there is a problem your s*****d. I'd reccomend buying second hand off someone off boards, if you have any problems you can come back to them and they will sort it out. Its likley if you buy an pre-upgraded gun the current owner will know his/her way around the interanls of the gun so is you need any help/upgrades they will proably do it for free.

Oh and bipods are usless for airsoft.

liamo: the odd subtle mention is ok, but it's getting a bit much at this stage, please refrain from pimping your ad, you have it in your sig and it's still in the for sale forum, that will have to do for now

Thanks for the help and advice guys. I'll likely go ahead with the package from UNCompany (just as soon as payday rolls around).

Although, after reading some more threads here, I've realised that UPS, although cheaper than EMS, is not the best method of shipping. I made another order for the same package via EMS, and the quote comes to a total of €252. (an extra ten euro)

Liamo: I had come across your ad numerous times before making this post. Oh, and bipods are not useless for plinking. ;)

Kdouglas: Thanks for the clarification on the applicable charges. UNCompany have a feature when ordering where you can have the package invoiced at being as low as 30% of it's actual value. I know that this involves the risk of losing on insurance should the package get lost, but will it actually reduce customs charges or do they use a different valuation procedure than just looking at the invoice and shipping charges?

Its illegal, and if you're discovered doing it, you'll be liable to a hefty fine and probably confiscation of your goods.

I see. Definitely not worth the risk. Thanks Shiva.

exactly, and slight less important, it's against the forum charter to discuss it
