Ive noticed every now and again that while using the xbox it sometimes comes up "disc unreadable please clean". Now these discs are spotless so theres no way i was going to go messing with them but whats the story with the error message coming up?

Ive heard stories of the xbox being dodgy but i only bought it when bioshock came out and the error message came up on fifa which was only bought friday. It also caused a small circular scratch. Whats causing it?

It's a 'known' problem with rubber padding not being used on the DVD-ROM. Not sure what the solution is, but you might be able to ring MS and get them to help you out...

Link. Read the bit that starts 'On April 14, 2007...'

Now I'm not suggesting anyone else try this as i dont want people to mess around with their discs but i rented Halo 3 the other day and when i got home it was horribly scratched and smudged. I used my sisters make up wipes on it and it cleaned it up nicely, went from cannot read disk to reading it flawlessly.

I used to get this all the time when I first got my 360, I found that letting the 360 boot to the dashboard before inserting the disc resolved these messages...

I finally got tired of this error, and the xbox scratching my discs. I had the machine replaced at the weekend. 3 year warranty they give on the new one too.

If the old drive made a clicking or a very slight ringing soung, I had to run to the machine to stop it chewing the disc.

If you are having this problem, even just the disc unreadable, why put up with it. Get it replaced. You paid a lot of cash, its ruining your enjoyment and most places dont quibble over returned machines now theyve seen so many come back.
